DESCRIPTION: The University of Redlands Division of Student Affairs is seeking an experienced, team-focused leader with exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to serve as the Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing and Community Standards and Wellbeing. Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) and Associate Dean of Community Standards and Wellbeing (CSWell), the Associate Director provides key leadership in developing and facilitating process and materials for onboarding, training, and ongoing supervision and professional development of professional level staff, graduate assistants, and resident advisors. The Associate Director is also responsible for facilitating effective communication through all levels of the team (via regularly scheduled team and individual meetings, as well as other mediums). This position is also responsible for ensuring prompt, equitable, effective, holistic response to problems that arise within communities or our staff team. The Associate Director aids in overseeing the programming, community development, policy enforcement, and health and wellness monitoring and case management for the residential communities. The Associate Director supports RLH and CSWell in all campus wide projects such as housing assignments, staff selection, policy development, preventative education efforts, crisis management, and other projects assigned. The Associate Director works alongside the Associate Deans to provide vision and support for multiple living-learning or themed communities as well as the wellness support of all students. The Associate Director may have some additional responsibilities in working with the CARE Team or health and wellness education for students, depending on interest and experience.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Supervise Area Coordinators; conduct periodic performance evaluations of staff and provide feedback for colleagues and supervisors for their annual reports; provide professional development.
- Attend, instruct, and actively participate in all scheduled trainings prior to the start of school.
- Enforce all campus policies, hall rules and regulations, and adjudicate student conduct cases as delegated by the Associate Dean of Community Standards and Wellbeing.
- Identify students with personal, behavioral or developmental concerns and refer them to appropriate resources for consultation and assistance. Provide case management of students with conduct and mental health issues as assigned by the CARE Team.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Residence Life and Housing to manage and implement campus wide projects including, but not limited to: Housing Selection and Placement process, staff selection, training, website management, assessment, etc.
- Develop strong interpersonal relationships, social interactions, and community cohesiveness between staff, residents, and University students.
- Participate in special assignments, annual events and projects as assigned through Student Affairs, including housing assignment process for summer, vacation, new, and returning students.
- Serve as an administrator in the on-campus duty rotation for crisis intervention and emergency coverage.
- Attend appropriate Division and department meetings as required; related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree required plus a minimum of 2-4 years of related professional experience (Resident Director, Assistant Director, Student Conduct Officer, Case Manager, etc.) and/or work performed with community-based organizations. The ideal candidate is committed to an understanding of the values of higher education, student and community development, and diversity. Candidate must have the sensitivity and ability to work with the traditional college age student, advise staff, develop and implement programs, produce effective outcomes, work effectively both individually and with groups, use independent judgment and display decision-making ability. Flexibility to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of students and staff is necessary and will require attendance at evening and weekend events, as well as overnight retreats and training. Experience using software such as Maxient and Adirondack The Housing Director (THD) is desired. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
