Budget Title: Assistant Director of College Housing
Duties:
The Assistant Director of Residence Life serves as a senior member within the Department of Residence Life and focuses on the continuation of a successful and ongoing living learning environment for residential students. The Assistant Director works to create an environment that seeks to foster an environment which promotes wellbeing, belonging, and overall contributes to a student's overall success. The Assistant Director is a 12 month, live-off, full time professional within the department of Residential Life and reports directly to the Director of Residential Life.
Essential Functions:
The following responsibilities is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position.
- Develop a residential community that focuses on student success while creating a sense of belonging for individual students and the community as a whole
- Select, train, supervise and support professional staff members overseeing the residential halls
- Regularly provide training and professional development for professional staff within the department
- Oversee all operations of several Living Learning Communities on campus and the possible future creation of new communities within our hall
- Help lead weekly residential life team meetings and maintain one-on-ones with professional staff members overseeing residential halls
- Serve as back up administrator on call
- Leads the planning and implementation of department wide initiatives and events
- Responds to concerns from students, parents and university community in a timely and supportive manner
- Provide direction and guidance to departmental committees on residential education and learning outcomes
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Skill in negotiating, exchanging ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs.
- Expertise in conflict resolution and mediation and capacity to address nuanced problems with sensitivity and sound judgement.
- Experience teaching and ability to implement training.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to form and maintain cooperative working rapports with students, staff, faculty and administrators of various social, cultural and educational backgrounds.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in higher education, counseling, student personnel services, student affairs administration or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in residence life and housing with increasing levels of responsibility that include crisis management, budget management, facilities and housing operations, student advising, program planning, and supervision of professional staff.
- Supervisory skills which inspire, motivate, and foster a culture in which all staff members are treated with respect, fairness, and professionalism and promotes professional development among the team.
- Knowledge of equity and inclusion issues and laws that impact higher education and particularly community living (all gender spaces, Title IX, affinity based living learning communities, ADA compliance).
- Experience with student learning and development, community development, supporting students' well-being, and best practices in residence life programs and operations.
- Availability on weekends and evenings as needed.
