The Viterbi Admission and Student Engagement office (VASE) is a large student services unit within the Viterbi School of Engineering providing support to over 9,000 on-campus and online students of all levels (bachelorâs, masterâs and doctoral). The Division of Student Engagement and Leadership Development, within VASE, provides meaningful opportunities to connect with the campus community and to engage in co-curricular programs and activities that enhance the student experience along four success areas â academic, career, social, and wellness.
The Director, Women in Engineering and Leadership Development is an integral component to the Office of Student Engagement team and will report to the Executive Director of Student Engagement. This position is responsible for directing all programs and services for the schoolâs Women in Engineering Program and Leadership Development programming.
The Women in Engineering Program (WIE) serves as the primary support program for female, non-binary and non-cisgender students within the Viterbi School of Engineering.  This includes serving as the staff advisor for the Society of Women Engineers and Alpha Omega Epsilon; supporting other female student organization; serving as a resource and mentor to female students within engineering in an effort to increase retention. The Director will also oversee Viterbi leadership institute and leadership program development for Viterbi student affairs and supervise an Associate Director.
The ideal candidate must have experience in working with students both undergraduate and graduate students; developing support programs for engineering students; demonstrated commitment to DEI and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership, direction, and evaluation for departmental programs and services including publications, budget planning and maintenance, and overall procedures and guidelines.
- Manage and advise the Women in Engineering Board and serve as the contact for USC WiSE.
- Advise and mentor two school-wide student organizations: Society of Women Engineers and Alpha Omega Epsilon. Meet with presidents and organization officers on a regular basis to provide support and assistance in developing and planning activities that promote women in engineering.
- Develops, plans, and implements strategies that promote leadership development through comprehensive programming that includes leadership conferences, workshops, retreats, trainings, and the student involvement online platform
- Manage WiE mentorship program to aid in retention of women within the School of Engineering
- Collaborate with admission staff to develop strategies and assist in the development of promotional materials to increase the number of women applying to engineering each year.
- Supervise staff responsible for undergraduate and graduate student engagement.
- Direct staff involved in supporting all undergraduate student organizations, including KIUEL programming board activities.
- Manage and develop with staff all assessment and outcomes instruments, including student experience and climate surveys.
- Develop and maintain all databases required for tracking and implementation of various programs.
- Manage development of all promotional materials for programs, including management of staff responsible for creating and maintaining websites associated with programs.
- Assist in developing a community within the School that values and appreciates diversity in the field of engineering.
Minimum qualifications:
Masterâs degree in higher education/student affairs, womenâs studies, or leadership studies. Working knowledge of college student leadership development. Knowledge of student organizations and general student engagement. Knowledge of staff and student training and supervision. Strong organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines.   Excellent problem-solving skills.
Preferred qualifications:
â¢Minimum of 5 years of experience in administering college programs or services. Student Development/Student Affairs program administration preferred.
