Indiana University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a 12-month, post-doctoral fellow position in college counseling for a doctoral level clinical or counseling psychologist.  This fellowship provides an opportunity to gain experience working with a diverse student population at IU, a Research One university located in Bloomington, IN.

 

The focus of this post-doctoral psychologist position is 1. To intentionally recruit individuals, including, but not limited to those with lived experiences as a member of underserved, minoritized and/or marginalized communities, 2.  To enhance clinical offerings to the IU graduate and undergraduate students who are members of underserved, minoritized or marginalized communities and, 3. To provide quality clinical experiences and supervision for the post-doctoral fellow to enhance their training and prepare them for a career in mental health within a college or university counseling center.

The students served by CAPS are enrolled at IUB, are adolescents and adults from all over the world who bring with them a range of psychological challenges that span the diagnostic spectrum and an amazingly rich array of identities, including race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, sex, culture, sexual orientation, physical ability and socioeconomic status that makes for exceptionally fulfilling and interesting psychotherapeutic work. Furthermore, we have a dedicated and diverse staff, representing a range of theoretical orientations, who pride themselves on understanding the human experience and providing multiculturally-competent and informed care, which serves as a cornerstone of our training program. Our center is committed to providing excellent training opportunities for developing clinicians. 

Clinical Experience 50%   The fellow will build knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and will gain supervised experience in each of the following areas: clinical services (includes brief individual psychotherapy and group therapy, intake assessment, and emergency services), consultation, and outreach programming. The fellow will be expected to co-facilitate 1-2 therapy groups for students of color and/or students who are members of underserved or marginalized populations. Some evening and weekend hours should be expected, especially involving outreach activities. 

Specialty Concentration 20%   A unique aspect of this position offers an opportunity to focus on a specific clinical or research area of the post-doc's choosing within the offering of the university. Examples may include but are not limited to the Kinsey Institute, Sports Psychology, School of Medicine, et al. Ability to develop the concentration is dependent on the availability of supervision and proposal provided in consultation with CAPS and area of concentration. Post doc is expected to develop a proposal, and have it accepted by relevant departments, staff, faculty etc., within the first 3-4 months of the fellowship. A summary of the outcome of the project will be expected no later than June 30th.

Outreach/Liaison 15%   The post-doc fellow will provide outreach designed for students, both graduate and undergraduate, who are members of underserved and/or marginalized communities. Outreach programs may also include faculty, staff and families of IU students.

Administrative 10%   The post-doc fellow is expected to attend weekly staff meetings, complete paperwork/clinical notes in a timely manner, return phone calls and plan programs during this time.

Supervision 5%   Both individual and group supervision will be provided by licensed psychologists, social workers or master level clinicians who are staff in CAPS. The post-doc fellow will have opportunities for supervision of trainees. They will also facilitate the diversity seminar for the internship. 

This is a full-time position for 12 months, available August 15, 2022 through, August 11, 2023.  Applications are invited from persons who expect to complete their doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology prior to the fellowship start date.  The successful applicant should demonstrate a professional commitment and interest in multiculturalism and social justice, college or university counseling center work, and student development.

By the start date of the postdoctoral fellowship, the candidate must have completed a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. 

The candidate should have demonstrated clinical experience working with individuals, but not limited to those who are members of ethnic minority communities and/or members of underserved or marginalized communities.

The candidate must have completed an APA approved doctoral internship.

Previous experience in a college or university counseling center.
