The Pierce College to UWT Transfer Academic Advisor for the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) and Pierce College will advise, recruit, and create programming to support students interested in transferring from Pierce College to UWT. UWT and Pierce College campuses seek candidates who value student learning; have demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and who are dedicated to the university and community college commitments to access, innovation and excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate programs and activities in support of Pierce College students interested in transferring to UWT, to include but not limited to workshops, presentations, and campus visits.

Advise prospective and currently enrolled Pierce College students interested in transferring to UWT regarding academic programs, degree requirements and transfer requirements.

Monitor academic success, Pierce College degree completion and transfer processes.

Assist students in clarifying educational, career and life goals.

Collaborate with the appropriate Pierce College/UWT campus colleagues to develop and implement innovative advising activities.

Provide prospective UWT students with admissions counseling via in-office visits, email and telephone appointments.

Assist with other academic and admissions advising when appropriate.

Be well versed in UWT and Pierce College policies and procedures, keeping abreast of changing transfer information in order to advise students about the most current requirements.

Assist with management of the Dual Enrollment admissions process and advising procedures, following an established flowchart to assure student success.

Serve on campus committees that address transfer student advising best practices.

Assess the short and long-term goals of the UWT/Pierce College partnership.

Other duties as assigned.

Ability to interpret complex and detailed educational documents for preliminary transcript evaluation, transfer determinations, and admission decisions.

Excellent customer service skills; including building and maintaining internal and external customer satisfaction and the ability to problem solve.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the social sciences or a related field.

A minimum of two years of experience working in an educational advising setting.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated experience interacting with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.

Intermediate data entry and computer skills in Microsoft Office.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution preferably in college student personnel, counseling or a closely related field.

Experience implementing new programs for educational purposes.

A strong understanding of advising strategies, best practices and theory.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Valid Washington State Driver’s License required.

Ability to work evening and weekends.

Transportation to and from events is the responsibility of the employee. Access to state vehicle for transportation to events is not guaranteed.

Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
