Reporting to the Assistant Director for Survivor Support Services of the PATH to Care Center, the Advocate position coordinate and implement survivor/victim support services, including 24/7 crisis response. This position will implement and improve essential functions of a confidential department focused on preventing and responding to sexual violence and harassment, stalking, and intimate partner violence.
The Advocate will provide a coordinated response to victims/survivors of sexual violence and harassment, stalking, and intimate partner violence. Major functions of the position include case management, crisis intervention, empowerment-based advocacy, and expertise with regards to all of the legal and administrative options, resources, and referrals for survivors/victims of these forms of violence. The advocate will evaluate summary data to identify trends to better inform outreach and response efforts.

Administer confidential and privileged, comprehensive, empowerment-based and trauma-informed crisis intervention, on-going advocacy, and support services to those that experience sexual harassment and violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence.
Administer and develop survivor-centered advocacy.
Provide support to those who have experienced complex trauma.
Assist survivors in developing and maintaining a safety plan.
Provide immediate response (on-call, including nights and weekends) crisis intervention, resource information and referrals.
Manage multiple, complex cases and function as liaison between survivors/victims and campus and community resources.
Coordinate campus and community resources to support individuals.
Provides assistance with various campus entities to increase access to campus-based services, in various campus offices, including: the Office of the Dean for Students, the UC Police Department, other specialized counseling services within the University, and investigation and adjudication systems as appropriate.
Provide assistance accessing and navigating the court system, the District Attorney's office, medical care and may assist with other activities such as providing support, including emergency housing, food, clothing, transportation and referrals to local resources as necessary. Interviews related parties to obtain pertinent information.
Administer advocacy support and referrals for the survivor/victim's friends and family in order to support efforts towards recovery.
Implement culturally-relevant services, support, and resources.
Infuse social justice and multicultural competence into every aspect of the development and implementation of services.
Implement best practices and techniques in accordance with California law (civil and criminal) and campus policies in a non-judgmental manner, maintaining confidentiality as defined by applicable professional codes, laws and policies.
Maintain confidential case files.
Collect and maintain baseline statistics.
Review data and trends as determined; provide appropriate reports.
Uses reporting data to improve advocacy and outreach efforts.
Advise community on trauma-informed response skills.
Serve as a general resource and provide consultation to students, staff, and faculty seeking information and services.
Strategy and Support Services:
At the Direction of the Assistant Director for Survivor Support Services, develop and regularly improve protocols and procedures with regard to advocacy and survivor support services with key stakeholders, including: law enforcement, local survivor support agencies, residential programs, OPHD, counseling services, Gender Equity Resource Center and many more.
Assist with the development of workshops and training programs to educate various university.
Implement strategies to reach communities, particularly underserved communities, via prevention education and outreach opportunities.
Develop, facilitate, and participate in outreach efforts.
Develop, implement, and enhance healing services for survivors.
Develop and maintain positive, productive, and effective relationships with local, community-based organizations to assist with advocacy and referral efforts.
Develop and maintain relationships with broad and diverse groups, including: student organizations and student leaders, Office of Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD), University and local police departments, Gender Equity Resource Center, UHS Tang Center, Center for Student Conduct, Human Resources, Academic Personnel, and Residential and Student Services Program, Office of the Registrar, financial aid advisors, academic deans and more.
Collaborate with other campus departments, student organizations, student leaders, and community agencies to support the success of campus activities including education, prevention, outreach, and survivor support efforts.
Utilize student development, social change, and popular educations theories and practices to promote an effective learning community.
Demonstrated ability to work with and effectively support individuals who have experienced sexual or domestic violence, sexual harassment, and/or stalking.
Strong skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and responding appropriately
Experience with crisis intervention, advising, peer counseling, trauma response, and/or advocacy to those harmed by violence.
Broad knowledge of the dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression, gendered violence, and sexual and intimate partner violence, on a university campus.
Demonstrated experience managing complex and difficult decisions when university policy is ambiguous, there is latitude for usage of judgment, or the client's reaction to advocacy methods may be less predictable.
Ability to recognize complex cases that may require transferring to an advocate with more experience.
Experience exercising professional judgment and the flexible use of advocacy skills; able to effectively use professional skills, objectivity and insight in effective advocacy services.
Demonstrated experience effectively using independent judgment and making professional decisions and recommendations in situations that require highly individualized planning in effectively advocating for the survivor/victim.
Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities.
Experience in speaking, training, and facilitating curriculum and services in front of diverse audiences.

Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling or related field OR equivalent work experience.
As a sexual assault and domestic violence counselor who has at least 65 hours of state mandated training and is supervised by a qualified counselor.

California Certification for Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Training
California Certification for Domestic Violence Advocate
Must be able to provide services, advocacy, and crisis intervention during non-business hours as appropriate.
Incumbent must be able to respond and present to campus within 45 minutes.
The ability to arrive at campus or other crises scene on- or off- campus is required.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality within the bounds of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and professional codes.
Incumbent must report to a qualified counselor as defined by California Evidence Code section 1035.2(a)(1).
A qualified psychotherapist with a master degree in counseling or has one year of counseling with six months rape crisis experience
Fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese
Demonstrated experience integrating theories of intersectionality and cultural competence in trauma response services.
Demonstrated experience including, advocacy experience, working with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socio-economic, sexual orientation, and gender identities and backgrounds in a multicultural college environment.
Demonstrated experience providing culturally-relevant services to communities that have been historically underserved by anti-violence movements.
Demonstrated history of mature professional judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of advocacy skills.
Analytical and intuitive skills to anticipate and identify concerns, issues and problems; to determine options for actions; and to initiate creative and timely responses.
Ability to drive during the course of the role responsibilities, as necessary.

Salary & Benefits
This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly rate is commensurate with experience within the range of $30.00 - $35.00/hour.
