The Retention Specialist is responsible for providing consistent, accurate, complex, advising services to undergraduate students to help them achieve their academic, personal, and career goals. This role is a shared advising position working with the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning and one of San Francisco State’s colleges. The Retention Specialist delivers individual and group academic counseling and advising, offers academic success workshops, and develops and participates in student retention initiatives.
The Graduation Specialist provides consistent, accurate, moderately complex, academic advising services to undergraduate students. This role is a shared advising position working with the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning and one of San Francisco State’s colleges. The Graduation Specialist works under general supervision to deliver individual and group advising with a focus on upper division students and those who are close to graduation.
Working in the Undergraduate Advising Center, the academic counselor provides advising support to a cohort of first-time freshmen and undeclared students. The role delivers individual and group counseling to facilitate major and career exploration, evaluate academic interests, and set goals to facilitate student success, persistence, and degree completion. In addition, the academic counselor works as part of a team to develop, plan, implement advising-related initiatives.
The College Specialist provides consistent, accurate, complex, academic counseling services to first-time freshmen, undeclared students, and students in their assigned college. This role is a shared advising position that is split (50/50) between the Undergraduate Advising Center and one of San Francisco State’s colleges. The incumbent collaborates with their assigned college and the Undergraduate Advising Center to improve the communication of advising-related information and to develop systems for delivering cross-campus, coordinated academic advising services.
