The Assistant Dean for Student Admissions provides the vision, strategy, and implementation of the recruitment and admissions of students and residents to the School of Dentistry (SOD). This includes oversight of the admissions processes for all School of Dentistry CODA/NWCCU accredited programs. The Assistant Dean leads the advancement and innovation of the admissions process to meet the diversity goals of the School and University, and the changing needs and expectations of dental school admissions on a national and applicant level. The Assistant Dean works within OHSU and other educational institutions to develop pathways for underrepresented groups to increase the diversity of the student body at the SOD.
The Assistant Dean for Student Admissions is a member of the dental faculty who has experience in the practice of dentistry and serves as a role model when recruiting students. The Assistant Dean will contribute to scholarly activity and research into admissions and recruitment innovation. Clinical practice opportunities will be available to the Assistant Dean.
Responsibilities for this position include direct supervision of admissions office personnel, oversight of the dental school application process from submission to matriculation, conflict resolution with applicants, academic and non-academic counseling to unsuccessful applicants, monitor admissions budgets and serve as liaison for the technological advancement of the admissions process.
Responsible for critical analysis of admissions statistics/data and providing institutional knowledge to assist OHSU leadership and departments with grants, reports and strategic planning at the Dental School and University level
Responsible for the development of outreach efforts in collaboration with OHSU departments to promote School of Dentistry programs and to increase diversity in the student body
Responsible for outreach to predental undergraduate student organizations to develop and expand pathways from college to dental school application, particularly for students who do not typically apply to dental schools
Serves as admissions liaison for the School of Dentistry with legal counsel, Provost, faculty, departments, community health care providers and predental advisors
Ensures climate of confidentiality for the Office of Admissions and regulates information to maintain a consistent, transparent, and fair process

The duties of this position include:
Lead the admissions process for all accredited School of Dentistry CODA/NWCCU programs, including independent oversight of the application process from submission to matriculation to ensure fairness and inclusivity. Primary responsibility for resolving conflicts and reconciling discrepancies for applicants, applicant information and the admissions process. Direct the processing of incoming student files in preparation for matriculation and compliance for school and university student records
Communication, Public Relations and Outreach:
Represent School of Dentistry and OHSU in public forum presenting touniversities/colleges, predental societies/clubs, predental advisors and community organizations. Develop School of Dentistry collaborative outreach efforts to enhance awareness of programs offered within the school, particularly in underrepresented groups that have not typically applied to the SOD. This includes assisting in the collaboration of university-wide outreach programs to promote diversity. Provide advice to OHSU leadership, faculty, and staff in responding to admissions related inquiries. School of Dentistry admissions liaison to regional and national organizations. Development of a variety of marketing materials. Work in collaboration with student services in SOD Academic Affairs, SOM, SON, and the Vice Provost for Student Affairs
Represent the School of Dentistry in conflict resolution with dissatisfied applicants, act as mediator to avoid potential litigation and to diffuse escalation of grievances. Independently assess admissions files and provide applicants with academic and non-academic counsel. Act on behalf of Admissions Committee in providing feedback to applicants that were unsuccessful in achieving admission
Provide vision, strategy and innovation for recruitment of students and development of pathways from high school to college/university to dental school application, particularly in underrepresented groups. Lead the advancement of the dental school admissions process to meet the goals of the school and the changing needs and expectations of dental school admissions on a national, regional, and applicant level. Lead in the implementation and regulation of admissions criteria and procedures that provide a consistently fair, transparent, and legally compliant process for all applicants. Provide leadership and institutional knowledge to assist deans anddepartments with grants, reports and strategic planning at the school and university level
Administrative Management and Leadership:
Direct supervision and management of Office of Admissions personnel. Serve as Chair of the SOD Admissions Committee. Member of SOD Leadership Team and various OHSU committees
Responsible for ensuring climate of confidentiality for the Office of Admissions and regulate information to maintain a consistent, transparent, and fair process
Identify and implement technology to maximize efficiency and data integrity. Responsible for creation and critical analysis of annual admissions statistics/data. Independently oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of admissions databases. Provide the school and the university with data and analyses for accreditation, strategic planning, and budget allocations
Monitor and reconcile expenditures against Office of Admissions budget and monitor allocations.
DDS, DMD, or equivalent degree in clinical dentistry
Minimum of five years of experience in dental student recruitment and admissions
Experience in developing and implementing strategies for recruiting gender, racial, and ethnically diverse applicants for healthcare education programs
Experience in building pathways for students in underrepresented minority groups to enter healthcare professions
Participation in gender and racially diverse professional organizations
Experience in providing healthcare to underrepresented minority groups
Masters degree in healthcare administration, public health, education, student affairs, or equivalent
Fellowship training in higher education academic leadership, ADEA Leadership Institute, or equivalent
