The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. To accomplish this, NOVA faculty are expected to excel in teaching strategies and classroom management that fully engage the student in a classroom, laboratory or online platform, and to engage students in individual conferences and related activities. NOVA faculty will help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity, thus building stronger citizens and enhancing the community.
The Associate Instructor will teach Accounting and related courses at Northern Virginia Community College following course curriculum standards set by the VCCS and NOVA utilizing textbook and teaching materials as determined by the discipline group or Pathway council. The Associate Instructor will deploy courses and course materials utilizing the Canvas learning management system.
The Associate Instructor position is a restricted appointment with an instructional load of 36-39 credits over the academic year. The teaching schedule may include day, evening, and weekend courses. This position is relieved of most administrative and governance duties to spend time in student support and student success related activities in which the individual will host 12 to 19 hours per week of student engagement activities to include regularly scheduled office hours. The Associate Instructor position/contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Master's degree in Accounting OR master's degree in a similar field such as Business, Finance, Taxation with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Accounting coursework. Qualifying degrees and coursework must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution. CPA or other professional accounting licensure may be required if master's degree is not in Accounting. A minimum of two years of full-time (or full-time equivalent) related experience, preferably occupational, is required. Excellent interpersonal, analytical and oral skills. Written communication skills are essential. Successful completion of criminal background check is required.
