POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director for International Admission has a critical role in Fordham’s efforts to recruit and enroll diverse and talented full-time first year and transfer international students. As a member of the international admission team, the Associate Director manages an international recruitment territory executing both in-person and virtual recruitment. This includes travel to high schools, attendance at college fairs, and hosting relevant outreach and virtual events. The Associate Director reviews applications for admission and financial aid for international undergraduate candidates. In addition, the Associate Director represents the Office of Undergraduate Admission in professional organizations and at conferences.
Reporting to the Director of International Enrollment Initiatives, the Associate Director serves as a member of the Office of Undergraduate Admission Senior Team and is responsible for the planning and execution of a variety of international initiatives, including international transfer enrollment and student financial aid processes. The Associate Director participates in all aspects of both the domestic and international admission recruiting programs including campus-based yield events and information sessions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the selection and enrollment processes for international and U.S. citizens living abroad utilizing qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategic planning and decision-making
- Evaluate approximately 1,500 first-year applicants for admission annually while adhering to office guidelines and holistic reading standards
- Utilize nuanced knowledge of University, mission, identity, academic programs, and admission related messaging specific to international student admission
- Contribute expertise to financial aid application and evaluation processes to attract and enroll talented, diverse international students.
- Manage the in-person and virtual recruitment of students from assigned international regions, leading outreach efforts and traveling to high schools, college fairs, and other events as appropriate
- Advise on international outreach and communication efforts, including digital content and print publications, email correspondence, and student-to-student engagement initiatives
- Supervise part-time application readers on admission evaluation and selection
- Coordinate international transfer admission review, evaluating approximately 500 applications annually
- Oversee professional Operations staff focused on international student communication and document processing
- Develop collaborative relationships with team members and other members of the University community
- Participate consistently in international professional organizations (i.e., attend conferences, present in workshops, join committees)
- Cultivate relationships with international school and independent counselors, education organizations, international alumni, and other constituents
- Counsel prospective students, families and school counselors on Fordham’s admission and financial aid processes
- Contribute to implementation of all general initiatives of the Office of Undergraduate Admission
- Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and equivalent professional experience (5+ years) required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Previous experience in admission, international education, or school counseling required
- Knowledge of a variety of international educational systems required
- Excellent intercultural communication skills (written and verbal) for individual interactions and large group presentations
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, a cooperative spirit, and a proven ability to lead
- Excellent organizational skills including experience independently overseeing complex projects
- Appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education and of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences
- Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team, exercise discretion, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community
- Ability to read and synthesize information within compressed time frames and for a high volume of application information.
- Valid Driver’s License and passport.
- Ability to work outside of traditional office hours and travel extensively and globally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Technolutions SLATE or like Admission CRM.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Quantitative and analytical acumen.
- Experience managing and coordinating the efforts of others.
