Summary
The Associate Director of Admissions- Traditional recruitment plays a key role in implementing effective recruitment strategies and overseeing the daily operations of the Admissions team. The Associate Director is responsible for the management, training, review and overall performance of admissions counselors. The Associate Director will manage the admissions process and direct their admissions team in attracting and engaging prospective students, building and maintaining a pipeline of candidates, enrolling qualified students and building the student population. As a leader in the department, the Associate Director develops and supports a team culture of purpose, marked by continuous improvement and a drive to achieve results.
Under the supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director will help plan effective recruitment strategies, identify strategic admissions initiatives and liaise with key departments and community partners.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop a team culture that is supportive, collaborative, engaged and motivated. Hire, train, and develop admissions counselors to align with the desired team culture.
- Design recruitment strategies that build a team that is diverse in multi-faceted ways to best represent and reflect the mission, vision and strategies of Calvin University.
- Monitor the progress all supervisees are making towards personal and departmental enrollment goals. Carefully monitor tracking reports (daily, weekly, monthly) and make adjustments and changes as necessary to achieve department goals.
- Regularly shadow and assess admissions team members to encourage skill and knowledge development.
- Develop annual recruitment plans that support increased student enrollment for the immediate term and with a long-term recruitment strategy focused on engaging underclassmen populations in key market development territories. Coordinate and evaluate admissions tactics to determine that our goals are being achieved.
- Develop advanced proficiency within the CRM to gather data, plan travel, record interactions with students, monitor team and evaluate strategies. Database proficiency will be an essential component to successful recruitment management.
- Analyze current enrollment data related to Calvin University student recruiting by reviewing current and historical enrollment and geographic data to identify and develop sources and contacts for reaching potential students.
- Represent the school at various events and conferences nationally, regionally and locally. Engage and nurture relationships from initial student contact through new student orientation.?
- Lead initiatives that strategically integrate current students, faculty, staff and alumni into recruitment efforts with a focus on student engagement and experience.
- Work in campus wide partnerships with a variety of constituents including fellow administrators, coaches, and faculty in administering admissions programs and projects.
- Ability to identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately.
- Handle sensitive issues and facilitate collaboration at the highest level.
- Establish and maintain effective communication to regularly collect feedback, share plans and review results with all impacted departments and the university community.
- Assist admissions leadership team with various projects and responsibilities that enhance recruitment efforts for Calvin University.
- Collaborate with members of the enrollment strategy division to identify and implement regular and annual improvements to admission processes. Liaise with different departments about the implications of these changes. Identify business processes that can be enhanced through creative solutions.
Education and/or Experience
- 2- 3 years of experience in admissions or higher education with documented success in college admissions/recruitment.
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field required, Master's degree preferred
- 1-2 years of previous leadership experience required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position requires management of a large team of admissions counselors at varied experience and leadership levels. Student employee supervision may be required as needed.

- ORGANIZATION- A demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex information is required. Visually represent process, plans, and information to create clarity and understanding among all constituents. Attention to detail and timeliness is critical for success.
- COMPLEXITY- This position requires the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Instructions may be furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- DECISION MAKING/JUDGEMENT- Demonstrated ability to make judgement calls aligned with the university and department mission and vision is required. Ability to use data and reports for decision making and improvements.
- REPORT DEVELOPMENT & TECHNICAL SKILL- This position will require an understanding and usage of a CRM database system to pull reports & queries for analyzation.
- CREATIVTY- Develop creative approaches to challenging recruitment and enrollment issues through innovative and relevant strategies. Stay current in student preferences, buying behaviors, and industry updates through regular reading and research.
