Summary and Scope of Position:
The Director of Residence Life is a full-time position that reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs. The Director of Residence Life is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the residence life and student housing program. The Director is a senior member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, crisis response team, and serves in the senior on-call rotation.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and supports the development of three Assistant Directors and a senior student leadership team
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and supports the development of over 60 student staff members, including Resident Advisors, Key Room Manager & Assistants, and Room Inventory Crew
- Supports a resident student population of approximately 1500 students through the use of a curricular approach to tie Ursinus Quest to the residential experience
- Serves as a senior member of the Student Affairs leadership team
- Creates and enforces policies and procedures for student housing selection and occupancy, room change, move in/move out, and residence hall safety
- Leads department initiatives such as RA selection and training, housing selection, opening and closing, and summer programs
- Maintains student housing data for all residence halls, including 5 traditional halls and the residential village (40 houses)
- Serves as the primary administrator for StarRez housing software.
- Collaborates with the Common Intellectual Experience (CIE) Coordinators on co-curricular events and initiatives
- Encourages the development of self-governance in the residential community through Interest and Identity Housing.
- Directs crisis response in the senior staff duty rotation;
- Serves as a senior conduct officer in administrative, investigative, and panel hearing processes
- Acts as a case manager for students of concern; provides support and resources to students with emotional and behavioral concerns
- Provides significant campus visibility during evenings and weekends and supports special events such as Orientation, Family Day, Homecoming, and Commencement
- Assists in developing and implementing student affairs policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in an appropriate field and at least 7-10 years of relevant professional experience and increasing responsibility within student affairs
- Commitment to and demonstrated experience promoting inclusivity across difference
- Previous experience implementing a residential curriculum
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build partnerships and collaborate with students, staff, faculty, families, and administration
- Experience responding to and managing student incidents and crises
- Substantial staff supervision and administrative experience
- Strong communication skills
- Innovative and creative approach to student development
- Previous experience at a residential liberal arts institution preferred
