Announcement is hereby made for a term full-time, 12-month, Professional Assistant position on the CARE Team & Mental Health & Wellness Services Program located on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.
The Professional Assistant will serve as a case manager for the CARE team and Mental Health and Wellness Services. The individual provides goal-oriented, strengths-based assessment, intervention, and coordination of services to students experiencing challenges. The goal is to help students overcome barriers to success and enhance their overall well-being. The Professional Assistant plays a crucial role in referring, participating in, and delivering interventions through the institution’s CARE Team and Mental Health & Wellness Services. They are responsible for responding to students and ensuring they are connected with appropriate resources. The position will report to the College Director for Mental Health and Wellness Services.
The ideal candidate will have effective & creative problem-solving skills, conflict resolution skills, organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently with latitude for judgement. The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations & the ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks.
Job Responsibilities:
Schedule appointments with referred students and manage their cases.
Conduct holistic non-clinical intake assessments.
Develop action plans, make referrals, and provide ongoing support including follow-up appointments.
Connect students with necessary resources both on and off-campus.
Collaborate with staff, resources, and the CARE Team.
Maintain and update a referral resource database.
Document case notes in electronic records.
Participate in CARE team discussions and contribute assessments using case notes and new referrals.
Refer students to the Team as required and implement Team recommended interventions.
Create marketing, awareness, and educational campaigns promoting CARE and mental health services.
Develop and deliver presentations tailored to specific stakeholders.
Coordinate with institutional offices, ensuring effective integration of messaging.
Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Participate in assessment efforts related to case management effectiveness.
Participate in trainings.
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or other mental health and wellness related field
One (1) year of experience providing support to individuals in crisis
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the higher education environment
Working knowledge of mental health, student development, Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) best practices, higher education law, FERPA, and electronic record-keeping systems
