Work Schedule: Day/evening hours available, up to 20 hours per week.
Non-benefited, MCCC unit position
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Conduct individual and, on occasion, small-group tutoring sessions in specified subject areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tutor students taking math and science courses including but not limited to algebra, statistics, calculus, biology, and chemistry.
Help students prepare for STEM assessments/tests (e.g. TEAS exam, Accuplacer placement tests)
Meet with students individually or in a small group as appropriate
Encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying that will serve them throughout their college career
Help maintain records of student attendance and learning progress
Attend required tutor and staff meetings throughout the semester and provide updates on student progress to TRIO SSS staff
Assist students in making appointments and logging in/out of the center
Perform other duties consistent with the position of Professional Tutor
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of TRIO - Student Support Services
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required (in Math, Chemistry, Biology, education or other field related to area of assignment)
Experience tutoring and/or teaching Math such as algebra, statistics, and/or calculus, Chemistry or Biology.
Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrate qualities of patience and empathy; respect for students of all genders, gender identities, cultural/ethnic/language backgrounds, ages, and abilities
Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations (specifically first-generation, low-income, students with documented disabilities)
Computer proficiency in MS and Google Office Suite
Ability to take initiative, be a self-starter preferred
Bilingual speaker preferred
Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.
Additional Information: SALARY: $33.95 per hour. Non-benefited, MCCC unit position
