General Summary: Under the direction of the Director of the Asian American Student Advancement Program, the Specialist is responsible for providing individualized student support - in the forms of counseling, advising, and mentoring students. Duties include coordinating programs and services, recruiting students; conducting direct service activities; providing case management and advising; maintaining grant related data. The individual would collaborate with internal and external offices and constituencies, including staff, faculty, administration, UMass Lowell and surrounding external agencies in an effort to increase persistence, retention, transfer and graduation for MCC's Asian student population.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Expand current student support, outreach and other retention efforts
Coordinate, facilitate and assess programs that enhance Asian American student engagement and success.
Assist in the gathering of data for grant reporting
Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas (e.g. utilization of on-line platforms such as Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, etc.), so as to be able to provide direct services to students remotely. Attend training sessions as needed to develop these skills.
Serve as a liaison between Asian American students, faculty, staff and for campus services including the Office of Student Engagement, Admissions, Advising, Registration, Student Accounts and Financial Aid Departments.
Serve as an academic advisor to an assigned group of advisees.
Collaborate with the Success Scholar Coaches to train and supervise the peer mentors who will be working on the grant.
Mentor Asian American students to support their personal growth, college engagement and academic success.
Assist in conducting surveys and workshops.
Assist in the development of multicultural programs to promote racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity.
Assess students' educational goals, academic skills, personal development, and socio-cultural needs, and promoting/ensuring student success and retention.
Assist with enhancing and updating the Program for Asian American Student Advancement website and marketing materials.
Provide qualitative and quantitative assessment measures to ensure that efforts/focus are meeting the AANAPISI grant objectives and outcomes.
Ensure that services/resources are being provided with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, as well as institutional retention/persistence goals
Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Student Development, Counseling, or a related field.
Experience in student activities or multicultural programs.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities.
Exceptional collaborative leadership skills for working with multiple departments throughout the college and external providers to ensure the success of students.
Familiar and comfortable with utilizing social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook).
Working knowledge of modern office procedures, practices and equipment, including the use of computers.

Hours: 37.5 hours/week, schedule to be determined upon hire; This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
