Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Manager of Veteran Services will be involved with coordinating and supervising programs, policies and procedures specific to the college???s student veteran population. The Manager of Veteran Services will also ensure compliance with all guidelines and laws that pertain to student veterans. They will work with campus, community and CUNY stakeholders to provide veterans withsupport services and refer them to appropriate resources as needed.In addition, the Manager of Veteran Services will work closely with the division???s leadership team to provide feedback and consultation regarding policies and practices that impact the college???s student veterans.will be involved with coordinating and supervising programs, policies and procedures specific to the college???s student veteran population. The Manager of Veteran Services will also:
?? Serve as primary point of contact and advocate for all student veterans, and stay abreast of all VA educational benefit criteria.
?? Develop a campus environment conducive to helping veterans transition from the military to higher education.
?? Liaise with CUNY???s Office of Veteran???s Affairs to ensure that university-wide efforts regarding student veterans are effectuated appropriately.
?? Coordinate with community organizations to assist student veterans as they transition from the miliary, and develop and sustain relationships with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the City Department of Veterans Services, Project for Return on Veterans Education (PROVE), etc.
?? Facilitate faculty and staff trainings and/or workshops to increase awareness about the needs of student veterans.
?? Collaborate with Admissions, Bursar, Student Financial Services, etc. to facilitate new student orientation for incoming and returning student veterans.
?? Develop programming to engage the student veteran population and collaborate with campus stakeholders to facilitate programming focused on student veterans.
?? Offer comprehensive advisement by developing academic plans, performing audits and resolving issues regarding curricular requirements.
?? Prepare and disseminate a variety of reports for internal and/or external entities.
?? Manage the release of information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines.
?? Supervise extracurricular activities for student veterans, including club certification and community service opportunities.
?? Provide support for large-scale college-wide events including New Student Orientation, student leadership trainings, Commencement, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
?? An earned Master???s degree from an accredited institution and a strong record of demonstrated supervision or management experience in Student Affairs or a related discipline.
?? Demonstrated commitment to, and experience with, programs in support of student development.
?? Excellent skills in oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
?? Demonstrated skills in data analysis in support of program, event, and student improvement.
?? Ability to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical base for student engagement.
?? Bilingual skills in Spanish a plus.
