Grinnell College seeks applications and nominations for an Assistant Director of Employer Engagement and Internships.
As a key member of the Center for Careers, Life, and Service (CLS) and reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director of Employer Engagement, the Assistant Director will ensure the internship program aligns with the CLS’s goals for student learning and advances its mission of empowering students to live, learn, and work with meaning and purpose. The Assistant Director will assist with the creation, coordination, and implementation of programs and initiatives to cultivate new and sustain existing relationships and partnerships with organizations, alumni, parents, and other friends and stakeholders of Grinnell College to expand the number of quality internship opportunities for Grinnell students.
This position will also provide the leadership, structure, and overall coordination of the College’s internship program, including the grant funding process as well as the internship course (INT-300). In doing so, the Assistant Director will work collaboratively with college staff (e.g., CLS, Development and Alumni Relations) and faculty, members of the administration, alumni, employers, and students in promoting internships as an integral element of the liberal arts learning experience and work with campus partners to monitor risks of international internships and all government regulations as needed and required. The Assistant Director will also prepare pertinent internship reports and publications; maintain accurate employer and student records; and maintain statistics regarding student tracking as well as track job market demand to assess and predict future engagement activities.
Expected start date: Negotiable. Preference for February 1, 2023, or earlier.
Bachelor’s degree required
Prior experience (at least 3 years) in career development, higher education, human resources, talent acquisition, workforce development, or a similar field.
Master’s degree in higher education, student development, human resources, or a related field.
Prior experience administering grant funding or similar processes.
Knowledge of and previous experience with an internship program (creating an internship program, supervising interns, etc.).
Must be a self-starter and possess strong ethical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Must have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity.
Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
Possess an understanding of the world of employment (e.g., how industries recruit differently, identify premier/leading employers, understands professional points of entry).
Proficiency with Windows environment including word processing, and knowledge of database programs. Computer expertise in Excel, Word, and email communication essential.
Must possess aptitude for numbers, accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrates knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, students and employers with experience promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce/academic environment.
Demonstrates a working ability to apply policies and practices for planning and administering a budget.
Experience in effectively building and managing professional external and internal relationships and partnerships with employers, alumni or community outreach; corporate relations.
