The University of Southern Indiana seeks applications for a Director of Academic & Support Services for Student-Athletes. This 12-month position is responsible for assisting the Associate Director of Athletics and other student services personnel in expanding and maintaining academic services for USI student-athletes.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Serve as a liaison between Athletics, each college and the Center for Exploring Major advising centers, and the Registrar. Serve as secondary advisor to provide accurate information to student-athletes and coaches regarding maintaining NCAA eligibility. Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes in regard to all conference, NCAA and USI eligibility regulations. Oversight of the at-risk student-athlete population. Make decisions with the student-athlete’s advisor concerning changes to students’ class schedule and appropriate placement into other classes. Provide counsel regarding career plans, academic difficulties, and degree program selection. Conduct initial and transfer eligibility audits. Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. One to three years of experience in administrative of intercollegiate athletics required, ideally including academic advising, career planning, and/or other relevant student personnel services. Familiarity with NCAA Division I eligibility rules and regulations. Effective oral and written communication skills to relate well with the University community and general public. Must possess strong analytical skills combined with clear, persuasive, and appropriately assertive communication techniques to relate technical matters to nontechnical staff, to achieve credibility with internal and external staff, and to ensure desired compliance outcomes. Strong networking and interpersonal skills to promote the University through developing relationships with internal and external contacts while representing the Athletics Department at games, events, conferences, and meetings. Proven leadership skills to assist in coordinating a successful athletic program. Strong organizational and time management skills.
