The Assistant Director for Admissions & Outreach is responsible for managing regional recruitment and targeted population (underrepresented and underserved) recruitment of medical students to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Makes strategic decisions about related marketing and outreach to target populations including the marketing, management and execution of the annual Summer Scholars pathway program.
The Assistant Director is responsible for managing Early Assurance Program (EAP) partnership agreements, the applicant and participant database, reporting longitudinal and short-term outcomes, and ongoing evaluation of the EAP. In addition to the EAP, this position will closely collaborate with the assistant directors of admissions and outreach on the Dublin and Cleveland campuses to explore and establish critical K-16 pathway programs designed to encourage the interest and preparedness of prospective students, particularly those belonging to underrepresented groups and rural populations.
1. ADMISSIONSANDRECRUITMENT The Assistant Director for Admissions & Outreach is responsible for the admissions, recruitment, and outreach efforts for prospective students who meet the institutional and societal mission of the Heritage College.
Makes decisions regarding recruitment activity in the state of Ohio and designated out-of-state marketsto provide information regarding the medical school application and preparation process, osteopathic medicine as a profession, and the Heritage College.
Reads and reviews assigned applicant files for OU-HCOM admission. Assists in the review and recommendation of candidates eligible for Post-Baccalaureate Program participation.
Arranges and manages individual student and group tours of the Heritage College Athens campus.
Schedules and hosts online and in-person information sessions relating to the Heritage College with special emphasis on Athens campus recruitment.
Create, execute, and manage recruitment initiatives focused on underrepresented minority students and other target populations.
Collaborate with assistant directors on Dublin and Cleveland campuses to support and advance both college-wide, and campus specific underrepresented minority recruitment initiatives.
Assists in the selection and on-boarding of Summer Scholars, an Athens campus residential pathway program. Also responsible for selection and management of Teaching Assistants.
Create and maintain advising relationships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions and Native American serving institutions to enhance pre-health advisor's knowledge of OU-HCOM programming and opportunities as well as the profession of osteopathic medicine
Directs and manages admissions programs that pair Ohio University undergraduates with medical students (Athens Medical Mentors) and incoming medical students with second year medical students (COMrade).
Coordinate semi-annual meetings with all EAP students (up to 80 total undergraduate students in a given year) online or on their campus. Maintain frequent communication with all Southeast Ohio EAP students and the EAP partner school faculty advisors and undergraduate admissions administrators to monitor and improve the program.
Responsible for initial and ongoing training with undergraduate admissions recruitment teams regarding EAP guidelines, interview process, and general HCOM/osteopathic medicine information.
Participate in EAP interviews and selection process annually.
Responsible for managing and marketing all aspects of the Early Assurance Program (EAP) which currently affiliates the Heritage College with six undergraduate institutions in the state of Ohio.
Collaborates on recruitment and outreach activities of Dublin and Cleveland Assistant Directors of Admissions and Outreach with respect to the Heritage College obligations outlined in partnership agreements.
This includes the scheduling and budgeting of mock Medical College Admissions Test examinations, any experiential programmatic activities, and annual WelCOMe and Accepted Student Day events.
Schedule and execute check-in sessions for Ohio University and Shawnee State EAP participants during the academic year to assess academic performance and general well-being. Work in collaboration with the Ohio University Pre-health advisor to co-teach and coordinate activities within the OHIOEAP Learning Community.
Works closely with PreHealth advisors at Ohio University and Shawnee State University to monitor EAP student progress and compliance in accordance with affiliate agreements.
Coordinates with Ohio University and Shawnee State University pre advisors to facilitate a simulated Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) day.
Responsible for creation and oversight of medical student mentoring assignments for Ohio University and Shawnee State University EAP participants.
Collaborate with the Office of Inclusion to support the Post Baccalaureate and PreMatriculation programs.
Serves as a member of the Summer Programs Planning Committee.
Creates and maintains outreach programs that feed the societal mission of the college, including but not limited to Storytime with a Doc and other programming that exposes rural, southeastern Ohio youth to STEM and premedical activities.
Engage with national organizations such as the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine and the Central Association of the National Association of Advisors to the Health Professions as appropriate.
Assist Senior Director of Admissions with implementation of rural pathway programs and ongoing planning and initiatives with the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers, Ohio HOSA-Future Health Professionals, and the Ohio Hispanic Coalition.
-Master's Degree in student personnel, education, higher education administration, organizational management, communications or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the master's degree requirement. -5 years of work related experience -Occasional travel necessary
