Required Education:
At Mercy Health- St. Vincent Medical Center (MHSVMC), PGY1 pharmacy residents will develop skills to become well-rounded practitioners and provide medication-related care to a wide variety of patient populations. Each resident will complete the core curriculum, including longitudinal components such as research and practice management. Additionally, each resident will have the opportunity to customize the program by selecting elective learning experiences based on their individual interests.
Advantages of working in a larger hospital system include opportunities for a wide variety of rotations with electives at other sites and a chance to participate in system-wide drug policy development. Preceptors are actively engaged in helping each resident meet their full potential based on their areas of interest. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based medicine, leadership and patient safety. Other unique program aspects include a teaching certificate program in collaboration with the University of Findlay College of Pharmacy and certification in advanced cardiac life support.

Research/Scholarly activity
PGY1 pharmacy residents are required to complete a longitudinal research project. While the resident is expected to be the primary investigator, pharmacy faculty mentors will be assigned to provide guidance based on practice area or topic. Research projects are presented at local and national conferences throughout the year.
Additionally, PGY1 pharmacy residents will co-precept at least one PharmD student, develop a formulary monograph, complete at least one medication use evaluation, and present at least three formal educational presentations to healthcare professionals.

Candidate Eligibility

- Have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
