JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Vice Chancellor for Strategic Partnerships (VCSP) is the lead administrator for UTHSC's institutional partnerships, serves on the UTHSC leadership team, and reports directly to the Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor, in collaboration with UTHSC's other academic leaders, leads and implements the strategy for advancing vital, external clinical partnerships that enable the other educational, research, and public service academic missions of the Colleges of Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Close collaboration and integrative leadership with the other vice chancellors and deans, and with their respective leadership teams, are critical factors for success in this new role.
Qualifications
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility of this inaugural position is to promote sustainable strong clinical affiliations and partnerships that enable academic excellence. The VCSP is expected to provide collaborative and integrative leadership in strategic clinical partnerships to enhance the clinical outreach of UTHSC and engagement of the University with the wider community.
Business Development
In partnership with the Vice Chancellor, Clinical Affairs & Executive Dean, College of Medicine, work collaboratively with hospitals, physician groups, community health, Veterans Affairs, and health system partners to build and expand clinical programs of excellence.
In partnership with all health sciences deans, work collaboratively with UTHSC partners to build and expand clinical programs of excellence.
Support academic leaders at UTHSC in sustaining and advancing faculty clinical practice plan partnerships to support the effectiveness and high quality of faculty practices.
Explore and develop opportunities for new or expanded partnerships that enhance clinical services across all UTHSC constituent institutions to effectively increase the clinical footprint and market share for UTHSC
In support of appropriate department chairs, promote clinical quality and customer service excellence of faculty providing UTHSC clinical services.
Partner with the deans and the Vice Chancellor of Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs to support interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance integrated health service delivery.
Identify and assist colleges in developing new practice opportunities and providing support in feasibility studies, business plans, implementation, and evaluation.
Partner with health science and clinical leadership in education and innovation to deliver care to the underserved and vulnerable populations.
Community Engagement and Outreach Services
Develop sustainable, long-term relationships within served communities to provide an integrated platform for clinical care, education, and research.
Partner to enhance community health through appropriate educational initiatives.
Enable clinical and community partnerships to combine the expertise, resources, and wisdom of the healthcare ecosystem and the campus to strengthen the quality of life for served communities and improve access to quality healthcare.
Collaborate with community leadership to understand and respond to the healthcare needs of the diverse communities UTHSC serves.
Be a visible and engaged leader and partner with the other Vice Chancellors, Deans, and Chancellor across the communities UTHSC serves.
Supporting Education
Collaborate with deans and education leaders to provide access to high-quality healthcare environments and partners to support students in professional programs.
Work with college deans and the Vice Chancellor of Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs to grow clinical partnerships and academic program offerings that address healthcare workforce needs for Shelby County and across the State of Tennessee.
Supporting Innovative Clinical Research
Support the growth of healthcare research and interdisciplinary health science research programs by creating new alliances and enhanced clinical integration within Memphis and across Tennessee.
Collaborate with Vice Chancellor of Research and deans in support of interdisciplinary research activities across the colleges.
Work to improve and develop a streamlined process for research contracts between UTHSC and clinical partners
Supporting Regulatory Compliance
Coordinate and collaborate with the vice chancellors and deans to support the oversight and compliance of clinical operations solely run by UTHSC with respect to patient confidentiality, clinical data management and access, healthcare insurance, and clinical professional standards and scope of clinical practice for each healthcare provider.
Guide the effective use of healthcare providers/students to the full scope of their education and practice within faculty practice sites.
The Vice Chancellor, Strategic Partnerships will be an experienced strategic leader with a strong commercial acumen, a natural inclination to collaboration and partnership, and an understanding of key trends and their impact on all aspects of the healthcare sector. The VCSP will be a team player, capable of engaging people at all levels of the organization, acting as a key influencer and catalyst for UTHSC's advancement. The VCSP will be passionate about conceptualizing, nurturing, developing, and proving new strategic partnerships and deepening existing institutional relationships. This individual will understand how to drive change in an established organization and recognize the importance of incorporating all stakeholder views and interests to create true lasting value for UTHSC and its key educational, clinical, and research partners.
IDEAL EXPERIENCE
Progressive leadership experience in complex healthcare settings
Success coordinating organizational strategic planning and execution as a leader in an academic medical center, health system, integrated delivery system, practice plan, or similar entity, with particular enthusiasm for and experience in developing and negotiating institutional partnerships.
Service as spokesperson and institutional representative
Demonstrated ability to act as the public face for strategic efforts and serve as an institutional leader.
Education
Graduate degree in a healthcare-related field strongly preferred.
