Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Recruitment & Outreach serves as the College of Education & Human Services (CEHS) liaison between the Undergraduate Admissions Office and the academic departments within the CEHS to coordinate and lead prospective student initiatives. This position also provides leadership for the EHS Residential College (EHSRC), a living learning community for students interested in academic programs housed in CEHS. In their role, the Assistant Director will oversee the creation and implementation of recruitment events for prospective students including freshmen and transfer students and provide active participation on college and university committees as it relates to recruitment, college onboarding, and living learning communities. The Assistant Director maintains relationships with student leadership of the EHSRC, and works with with all CEHS departments, staying abreast of curricular changes and applies changes for articulated partnerships. This position reports to a member of the Deans Leadership Team.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree. One year of relevant professional experience, including experience working directly with students. Experience with creating and implementing events and programs. Must possess a valid drivers license. Exceptional, demonstrated communication and presentation skills using a variety of formats. Demonstrated organizational skills, including ability to plan, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks and projects. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise independent judgement. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills. Proven ability to relate and work well with diverse faculty, administrators, staff, students, families, volunteers, and the general public. Ability to travel locally and regionally as needed. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in student personnel services, student affairs, higher education, leadership, or a related field such as marketing or sales. One year of direct recruitment experience and/or experience planning and implementing major events. Experience working with residential programs at higher education institutions. Post-degree work experience in a higher education environment. Understanding of the student enrollment and recruitment process, including conceptualizing, planning, and implementing admissions, recruitment, evaluation, technical, and yield activities. Familiarity with SLATE or other forms of CRM.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinates with departments/centers to develop, staff, and implement college-wide and department specific recruitment events such as CEHS Discovery Days, Behind the Curtain, and Think2Design. Provides leadership for the EHS Residential College (EHSRC), including setting long term strategic goals for this living/learning community related to recruitment and retention of undergraduate students and developing and implementing initiatives to achieve the programs goals. Provides coordination within CEHS for University-sponsored recruitment events. Develops and maintains relationships with external partners such as high school counselors and community college contacts. Coordinates with internal and external partners in presenting to various prospective student audiences including transfer students and incoming freshman. Coordinates recruitment communications with college and Undergraduate Admissions Office personnel. Works closely with Advising and Admissions staff to ensure accurate presentation of academic programs, admission requirements, and financial aid/scholarship information. Collaborates with Deans office staff to ensure that CEHS web site information for prospective students, EHS Residential College, and CEHS Student Ambassadors is current. Represents the CEHS on the Undergraduate Admissions Offices College Liaison Committee. Engages with CEHS leadership and chairs of academic departments to discuss enrollment and recruitment goals/initiatives. Provides recruitment and yield data to CEHS leadership. Works in coordination with CEHS faculty and staff along with other university partners to ensure articulated partnerships are up to date. Oversees the CEHS Student Ambassador program including selection, training, and oversight of Ambassadors. Networks with CMU departments to create opportunities for student engagement and professional development for EHSRC students. Identifies and coordinates experiential learning and civic engagement opportunities for students within the EHSRC. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to the EHSRC. Delivers presentations and collaborates with the CEHS Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications on preparation of EHSRC promotional materials. Oversees the EHS Peer mentoring program including recruitment, selection, and leadership for the Residential College program. Builds a sense of community within the EHS Residential College.
