Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Director of International Student Services, the International Student Services Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing dynamic support for Elon's international student community through gatherings and activities, visa and immigration guidance, and general advising. This includes preparing international students for a fruitful and successful Elon experience, providing guidance and social-cultural programing throughout their time as students, and fulfilling a government compliance role to ensure students' adherence to visa and immigration regulations.
Through one-on-one advisory meetings, programming, and logistical support the International Student Coordinator coaches students to help them grow individually, as members of the community, and will work with campus partners to support their wellbeing. This position is responsible for advising and assisting international students in matters including immigration, academics, and personal matters; and contributes to the university's strategic goal of 'An Unprecedented Commitment to Diversity and Global Education.'

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in any relevant field of study with minimum 3 years of experience with the following relevant work experience: Experience working in higher education with international students and/or others with bicultural/lingual backgrounds. Compliance experience strongly encouraged.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree in any relevant field of study
Job Duties
Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal immigration law. Assist international students in preparing for curricular and post-graduate professional development opportunities; utilizing Curricular Practical Training and Optional Practical Training (CPT & OPT).Act as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the Department of Homeland Security and as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the Department of State. Review files and evaluate all required documents for the issuance of the Forms I-20 or DS-2019 to all new and continuing students; advise F-1/J-1 students and visitors regarding their immigration status. Support international student compliance with requirements such as health insurance and filing taxes.
Advisory: Assist international students in navigating new administrative systems such as banking and in securing a social security number. Assist and provide guidance to international students who intend to study abroad in collaboration with the Study USA and Study Abroad teams. Work with students to help them leverage their skills and experiences as they transition to the U.S. Advise students of resources and pathways that position them to have a holistic student experience, and to feel full belonging as members of the Elon community.
Advocacy: Foster existing campus-wide relationships among key stakeholders/offices; ex: New Student and Transition Programs for International Student Orientation. Collaborate with GEC communications team to strengthen the online presence of ISSS by improving and consistently updating resources. Advocate for an inclusive community on behalf of the international student population through a multi-faceted approach. Assist the GEC team in developing and expanding upon DEI efforts that promote team and university-wide learning in deepening understanding and responsibility for justice and change.
Social/Cultural: Oversee International Student Orientation in collaboration with the Director of International Student Services and New Student Programs. Support diverse students through equitable and inclusive practice, ensuring a student experience and perspective of holistic belonging. Provide support for international students during holidays and breaks (gatherings, resources, storage, etc.). Produce the International Community Newsletter in collaboration with the International Student Ambassadors and the Global Education Center's communications team. Take an active role in supporting International House (iHouse) and Local Friends activities and gatherings.
Supervision: Supervise and train student staff (International Student Ambassadors)
