Announcement is hereby made for a full-time Assistant Director position for the Academic Success Center for the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood, NY. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.
This is a Guild (Unit 4) position, and, as such, the salary and benefits for this position are determined according to the salary and benefits plan for the Guild of Administrative Officers.
The Assistant Director advances the overall mission of the college by designing, developing and implementing programs and services that support student success, retention and achievement. This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Academic Tutoring Center including the Writing Studio, Math and Science Centers and Liberal Arts Tutoring, Reading, ESL, specialized programs (business, technology, industry, allied health), and support Labs, CLEP/OER programming, and Study Hour cohorts. The Assistant Director reports to the Campus Academic Associate Dean.
Job Responsibilities:
Designs, develops and implements innovative academic support services, programs, and a robust tutoring program for credit and noncredit students.
Serves as direct supervisor of the faculty coordinators and adjunct professional assistants for each of the skill centers and works in collaboration with Student Services and Academic Affairs.
Conducts faculty observations in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Provides data driven decisions, and strategic planning and assessment for the Writing Studio, the Liberal Arts and Humanities Academic Skills Center, Allied Health Centers, and Math and Science Centers.
Provides budget development and oversight of the department’s annual budget and manages scheduling and payroll of staff.
Recruits, hires, trains and supervises staff including professional staff, instructors, and office aides.
Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with faculty from relevant academic departments; plans and implements appropriate meetings and trainings between faculty and tutors.
Publicizes academic support services to credit and non-credit students and maintains Center's website.
Represents academic skills centers to the larger campus and college community; acts as liaison to other departments and offices.
Develops and implements academic and student services programs that aid in the retention and success of enrolled students.
Assists the Division of Academic Affairs when needed with dismissal and reinstatement hearings, pre-requisite waivers, and advisement.
Maintains and reports on usage and outcomes assessments each semester (including summer and winter) to OPIE.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum
A Master’s degree.
A minimum of three (3) years of leading academic instructional support with experience in coordination of tutoring services and program development to foster student success with one (1) of the three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity and managing a team.
Preferred
Experience with databases.
Knowledge of advanced tasks in the MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, is preferred.
