The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) seeks an Undergraduate Advising Director (UAD), Academic Support Programs, within the office of Academic Advising and reporting directly to the Director of Academic Support Programs. All UADs conduct academic advising in one-on-one and group advising sessions; the UAD, Academic Support Programs will also develop, implement, and assess advising services and programming to support both general and specialized student populations. The UAD, Academic Support Programs works on programs and projects that provide students with excellent advising services, and that further the objectives of the office of Academic Advising. To do so, this UAD will become fluent in the interpretation and implementation of university policies, and will become familiar with the administrative procedures of partner offices across campus as well as those of all academic departments and programs. Also, this role will work to identify and resolve complex issues using expert technical and professional knowledge requiring excellent independent judgment. This position will interact regularly with other university administrative and service offices, academic departments/programs, and faculty. Additionally, this UAD will have a dedicated cohort of assigned undergraduate student advisees, which may include, e.g. students in academic difficulty, students living off-campus, students returning to Stanford after time away, etc.
In consultation and collaboration with partner offices across the university, this UAD will conduct academic advising, and will oversee advising programs, administrative functions, and case management of complex student situations, surfacing issues to discuss and deliberate with senior managers/leadership and key university officials.
The role will administer, implement, and interpret university policy and departmental procedures on issues ranging from advising, academic services, financial aid, housing, enrollment services, visa services, student life, and post-undergraduate studies. This role will interact with key administrative staff in those same offices. In addition, this role will identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex administrative issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas of the university.
The role will work closely with the Director of Academic Support Programs and other UADs and administrative staff on multi-faceted issues of diverse complexity (size, degree, focus, expertise, breadth, impact) involving analysis of data or situations that require in-depth understanding and evaluation of multiple variable factors. The role also will create, develop, produce, and offer academic programming for various populations of students.
In this role, you will:
* Provide direct advice to students on a range of issues including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
* Interpret and implement university policy related to academic policies; oversee the implementation of policies and practices for a student population or school.
* Engage in critical analysis of student and program concerns to resolve substantial issues which may span multiple areas (e.g., coordination of inter-office processes, case management of students in crisis or with complex personal or administrative situations, etc.), using advanced technical and professional knowledge.
* Develop and implement virtual and in-person programming for special student populations (e.g., support for students returning to the university after time away); make strategic recommendations for future programs.
* Analyze and develop report requirements, portals and student-facing communications (e.g. early identification of students in academic difficulty, tracking students on academic probation, etc.)
* Manage outreach programs and relationships with external community and university liaisons.
* Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, make recommendations and may award grants.
* Provide consulting advice to internal and external organizations; act as subject matter expert in a specialized field.
* Oversee key processes, including contribution and direction on policy and program content.
* Manage financial processes and development of budgets.
* May lead teams and projects that impact a significant unit of the university.
* May direct the work of other staff; contribute to development of staff training programs.
* Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks. Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively convey information to campus partners at all levels of management (faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders), as well as to students.
- Keen awareness of inter-office partnerships and professional diplomacy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced computer skills/expertise, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as relevant computer systems/technology experience, especially with data and spreadsheets.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse student body.
- Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
- Advanced degree preferred
- Three or more years of experience as a professional academic advisor in a higher education setting in a complex university environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the intellectual and social development of college students, with sensitivity to diverse student populations.
- Advanced skills in coaching student decision-making.
- Experience teaching and/or conducting research.

The expected pay range for this position is $91,000 to $120,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
