Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide direction, support, and serves as primary lead of Residency Placement.
• Provide database support and training to members of faculty and leadership who serve as academic advisors.
• Provide quality residency counseling and ensure residency counseling resources are available and accessible to COM medical students.
• Demonstrate use of career counseling techniques to provide general career advice to COM medical student population years I-IV. This counseling can be accomplished through various formats including, but not limited to individual meetings, small and large group presentations, seminars and workshops that highlight key topics in relation to GME pursuit.
• Serve as a resource for curriculum vitae, personal statement and cover letter writing and critique.
• Coordinate Match Day events in collaboration with University Relations.
• Implement and oversee Careers in Medicine (CiM) access.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism when interfacing with diverse audiences from a variety of educational and career backgrounds.
• Review required documents upon student request for residency application.
• Assist with other projects related to residency match outcomes.
• Actively engage with student medical interest groups to collaborate on specialty specific programming for COM medical student population.
• Aid in designing career development activities.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing available match related data, reports, systems and processes, as well as professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
• Ensure achievement of deadlines (monitoring due dates, collecting data, sending reminders, resolving problems, etc.).
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) regarding all things pertaining to the Residency Match Process.
• Provide guidance of MSPE (Medical Student Performance Evaluation) content to students.

• Provide guidance and support to Students, Faculty, and Staff on MSPE related issues. etc.).
• Ensure achievement of deadlines (monitoring due dates, collecting data, sending reminders, resolving problems, etc.).
• Produce accurate and timely reports (collecting data, completing data entry, verifying information, meeting deadlines, disseminating to pertinent individuals, etc.). Monitor trends.
• Participate in the development of training materials for Students and Advisors and assist in conducting training.
• Analyze operational data and statistics in order to identify enhancement opportunities, by developing action plans for, and implement process improvement.
• Ensure the security of departmental data.
• Assist in the promotion of excellence throughout the department.
• Help achieve departmental goals and objectives (performing duties of other team members during peak times, special projects, and/or during their absence, etc.).
• Remain current on job knowledge concerning job responsibilities (attending educational workshops, participating in internal offerings, and reading current publications).
• Ensures students receive adequate and appropriate services.
• Contribute to team effort by performing other duties as needed/assigned.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred
• Experience in advising and/or counseling of students required
• Experience in medical education or graduate medical education preferred
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of the residency application and match processes, including timelines preferred
• In-depth, accurate and current understanding of ACGME accreditation requirements and available residency/match data and the ability to assist students in applying this information to construct individual strategy for the residency application and match processes, taking into account their individual academic performance records preferred
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated initiative in being proactive, anticipating needs and implementing effective action plans
• Ability to solve problems, prioritize and multi-task in a deadline driven environment
• Must have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and a self-starter
• Exercise good judgment and discretion at all times
• Ability to be flexible, and able to shift priorities as demands change
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization
• High level of proficiency with PC based software programs, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience in higher education preferred
