Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Success and Equity, the Executive Director for Student Services and Engagement leads the development and implementation of a coordinated, collaborative, data-driven approach to student support providing an unparalleled level of holistic care to students. The Executive Director has oversight of orientation; student development; health and wellness services; career development; scholarships and grants; community service; and experiential learning funded by the student Opportunities Fund. The position requires a high level of collaboration across divisions and campuses, working with faculty, staff, senior leadership, and counterparts throughout the Macaulay consortium.
The ideal candidate is committed to the twin goals of access and excellence in public higher education and they are a passionate advocate for the success of underrepresented students. They are deeply interested in issues in higher education, staying current on research, emerging issues, and best practices in student affairs and student development, especially as related to honors education. They have an entrepreneurial approach to program development, taking ownership of the process of turning ideas into action, and they understand the CUNY context, policies, and practices that impact honors students. They are a strategic thinker, resourceful, and have demonstrated success building programs from the ground up and meeting strategic goals. The have the desire and ability to bring together diverse stakeholders to make a positive impact, are comfortable working with staff at all levels and across the organization and ready to roll up their sleeves as needed to move projects forward. They have exceptional writing and communication skills and demonstrated experience using assessment data to identify student success priorities and drive improvement.
All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in-person, 3 days remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.
The Executive Director for Student Services and Engagement will have the following responsibilities:
Provides strategic leadership of Macaulay???s Student Affairs operations, including alignment with college and university strategic plans, stakeholder engagement, planning, staff development, assessment and evaluation of programs;
Contributes expertise and insight to the development of policies and programs that foster a strong community dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, anti-racism and anti-discrimination;
Develops programming to maximize student access to Opportunities Fund activities including study abroad, internships, and undergraduate research; oversees awarding of Opportunities Fund grants; and ensures compliance with fiscal and reporting requirements of the Opportunities Fund;
Oversees the college???s Career Development office, expand employer relationships and increase internship, research, and job opportunities for students;
Oversees the college???s Scholarships and Grants office, ensuring that students are informed about procedures and deadlines to apply for tuition scholarships and named scholarships; works with campus and university partners to quickly resolve issues impacting students??? financial aid, scholarships, and enrollment; and advises enrollment management and others on matters related to financial aid;
Oversees the college???s Mental Health and Wellness Center, ensuring access to services by using a data-informed approach to monitor and optimize the blend of services offered;
Oversees the college???s Student Development office, aligning student activities and student government with current best educational practices;
Identifies and cultivates relationships with university partners and make appropriate referrals to services not directly provided by Macaulay, such as accessibility services, immigration services, veterans??? services, etc.;
Serves as member of the college???s Behavioral Intervention Team and coordinates the resolution of matters pertaining to Student Conduct;
Directs development of internal and external program communications, ensuring that Macaulay students and all stakeholders receive accurate, up-to-date information about policies, events, and all aspects of the student experience;
Participates in bi-annual reviews of student progress and coordinates academic support responses as needed;
Acts as liaison to student services at the eight partner campuses and to CUNY Central Office;
May serve on CUNY-wide committees related to areas in the job portfolio;
Oversees data collection and program assessment;
Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this job classification.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
A preferred candidate should have:
Master???s degree in higher education or related field.
A history of progressive responsibility in the delivery of academic programs and services in higher education.
Four or more years of leadership experience at the Director level or above.
Four or more years of experience working in a large, complex, public university system;
Four or more years of experience administering transition, engagement, and/or retention programming for high-achieving college students.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$140,000 - $145,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
