General Statement of Duties
Mount Wachusett Community College seeks a visionary leader to oversee all aspects of academic affairs. The Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs (SVPAA) will leverage all academic activities and programs to promote student success. The leader will be responsible for supervision, accountability, and providing an environment where students can be successful. The SVPAA will be responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming campus with particular emphasis on reaching the racial equity objectives established in the College's Strategic Plan. The SVPAA will provide vision and action to drive growth and new program development. Responsible for developing a collegial environment that is conducive to the scholarly interaction of students and faculty, the SVPAA will foster an inclusive environment promoting understanding and respect within a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
As the institution's chief academic officer, the SVPAA provides leadership, management and support for all academic related activities of the college. The position oversees planning and implementation of activities related to curricular design and development, academic quality in course offerings, and strategies to support student success and college completion. The SVPAA leads the work of deans, directors, coordinators, department chairs and has oversight of full-time and adjunct faculty and academic staff. The SVPAA exercises collaborative approaches to shared governance and the administration of collective bargaining agreements.
Responsibilities
Provides overall direction to integrated academic programs in the establishment, implementation, and management of the following: academic scheduling and programming; accreditation matters; faculty advising; student retention; curriculum development; education policy; institutional and faculty professional development; library service; program review; and divisional resource allocation;
Champions student-centered learning and support services. Sustains and improves an environment that meets the needs of students in a multicampus, multi-delivery environment;
Advises the president in formulating comprehensive academic plans, policies, and procedures for the execution of the goals and mission of the College;
Leads the process of faculty and staff personnel decisions, which includes appointment, rank and tenure recommendations, as well as sabbatical leave recommendations, for action by the president;
Serves on the president's leadership team and other committees (internal and external) and represents the president or College in a variety of settings as requested;
Supervises and evaluates the academic deans and all other direct reports;
Participates in the development and implementation of division and institutional long- and short-term plans;
Ensures compliance with College policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies and associations;
Provides leadership needed to strengthen and grow distance and hybrid delivery education;
Develops program, service, and student learning outcomes standards and regularly assesses outcomes with improvement actions taken as needed. Regularly evaluates the financial viability and return on investment of programs and services;
In association with deans and direct reports, prepares, manages, and assumes fiscal responsibility for all budgetary matters in the academic areas;
Oversees the development of our multicampus academic programming, college catalog, college calendar, semester course schedules, student handbook, and related publications in conjunction with designated personnel and divisions;
Maintains communication with colleagues in the Massachusetts system, as well as with other post-secondary institutions and other community college leaders;
Provides management support to grant-funded academic student-serving programs;
Works cooperatively with Workforce Development, Life Long Learning, and Enrollment Management divisions to develop academic ladders, partnerships and processes to ensure programs remain relevant and responsive to communities served by MWCC;
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters from an accredited institution of higher education required;
Five years of college-level progressive, academic administrative experience at the director/chair/dean or higher level; preferably with in a community college setting;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff to enhance student success, promote faculty development and achieve institutional goals;
Experience and familiarity with online learning and information technology.
Demonstrated experience with change management, specifically with regard to equity and racial equity.
Significant experience in budget development and administration; personnel administration and evaluation; curriculum review, evaluation and development; and contract administration;
A strong and demonstrated commitment to the philosophy of the mission-driven community college, to broad-based institutional planning, participative management, and to student development issues;
Demonstrates strong and responsive interpersonal skills;
Ability to work effectively in a collective bargaining environment;
Proficiency in oral and written expression utilizing technology to produce professional presentations and reports.

College-level teaching experience preferred, preferably within a community college setting;

Demonstrated experience in creating a positive environment for campus leaders to grow and develop academic programs;
Demonstrated experience addressing and/or understanding of challenges, opportunities, needs of highly complex, multicampus institutions;
Creative, innovative, and collaborative leader who is comfortable with the vulnerability inherent to transparent decision making processes;
Demonstrate a passion for and an understanding of the mission of public community colleges and a deep love of working with others toward student success;
Ability to foster the traits and qualities requisite to lead through institutional culture change;
Commitment to community engagement (with K-12 partners, regional chambers of commerce, non-profit service agencies, regional business community, etc.);
Collaborative with other divisions (i.e., student services, workforce development, business and finance, early college, etc.);
Commitment and demonstrated experience in valuing the importance of making data-informed decisions.

Salary: $165,000.00-$180,000.00
