Overview The Physician Medical Supervisor of Touro University California Student Health Center reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and is part of the Center's Leadership team. The Physician may provide primary and episodic care to Touro University California and assist or advise the Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the delivery model of care to their patients as needed. The Physician Medical Supervisor facilitates an environment that is effective and is proactive in identifying and addressing important issues within the University environment.
Within the Student Health Center, the Physician Medical Supervisor provides oversight for medical, and counseling avenues for students of the University; collection of professional health requirements specific to the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the College of Pharmacy, and the College of education Health Sciences-Physician Assistant program; and provides an avenue for accurate health certificates for those students applying to specific rotational sites for their medical education needs.
Responsibilities
Responsible for and commitment to a high standard of quality of care within the Student Health Center.
Oversees quality improvement and peer review process assisted by the Director of the Student Health Center.
Understand diversity and inclusion and the variables that contribute to that diversity of the University system.
Collaborates as needed with Counseling Services within the Student Health Center.
Is available to the Director, Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant during office hours by phone service as needed. The Physician Supervisor is available within the Centers setting eight (8) hours a week.
Assists the Director of Student Health with HIPPA and FERPA compliance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Periodically reviews and signs 5% to 20% of charts of those patients seen by the Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant clinical staff. (Dependent upon total number of patients seen per month.)
Assist Associate Dean with annual performance review of the Director of Student Health.
Assist the Director of Student Health with annual performance review of Student Health Center Staff.
Qualifications
Current DO or MD degree from a COCA or LCME accredited program.
Current Medical license.
Five years of primary care experience.
Active DEA Registration.
Current CPR for adult.
Effective written, verbal and technological communications skills.
Previous experience working with student health suggested, but not required.
