School of Medicine Leadership Position Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of Clinical Medical Education (ADCME). The successful candidate will also receive a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate department in the School of Medicine, and participate in teaching, research, and scholarly activities. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work successfully with a diverse student body.
A competitive applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series at the associate or full professor ranks. They must have demonstrated a significant history of service related to student affairs and/or medical education within a medical school or health sciences education entity. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education (SADME), and will be responsible for curricular development and management, faculty development, and all aspects of clinical medical education.
The ADCME provides leadership to a cadre of Clerkship Directors, Site Directors, Site Leaders, and Coordinators that work at the school and at multiple hospitals and dozens of outpatient sites to provide training that meets the educational goals of the school. The ADCME also works with the Director of Faculty Development, the Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience (LACE) team, the Doctoring/Clinical Skills team, the legal team, and many others to maintain critical relationships with our clinical affiliates and other partners. The ADCME is responsible for the integrity of the UCR SOM training programs, both from a quantity and a quality perspective, across all our partners and within the school. The ADCME provides leadership to the entire Clinical Education team in matters of student grading, progress, and curricular integrity. They also work with the Office of Medical Education Quality and Integration to evaluate educational outcomes. The ADCME is expected to perform episodic, biannual, and annual reviews of progress toward stated goals, with a focus on continuous quality improvement, and works in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Medical Education Quality and Integration and the Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation to achieve these goals. In conjunction with our Student Success team, the ADCME also works to identify learners that assimilate skills, knowledge, or behaviors at sub-standard rates and assists in developing remediable actions that focus on maximizing student success and the integrity of the educational program. The ADCME will also partner with the Associate Dean for Pre-clerkship Curriculum to ensure the integration of the basic, clinical, health systems and behavioral sciences across the 4 year curriculum. In sum, the ADCME is responsible for all aspects of clinical medical education at the UCR SOM.

The successful candidate must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree and possess Board Certification in a clinical specialty. They will be required to be a regular member of the UCR Health medical group. The candidate must retain university-quality skills and clinical judgement and must be available to teach and mentor learners in both UME and GME. A minimum of three years experience in the role as a clerkship director is preferred. The total time available for clinical duties will be negotiated with the department Chair and the SADME however there will be 75% FTE set aside for the ADCME role. The successful candidate will also be expected to show a record of research or scholarly activities appropriate for an academic appointment in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic and administrative leadership qualities.
