The Assistant Director of the Women's Center provides vision, leadership, and direction of the day-to-day operations of the Women's Center. The Assistant Director will provide programs and activities that support the academic success and personal and professional growth of women and gender non-conforming students, promote intersectional gender equity, and foster a supportive work environment for students, faculty, and staff. The Assistant Director serves as a liaison to the communities served by the University. The Assistant Director also provides management of fiscal resources associated with the support of the center. Through these duties the Assistant Director contributes to the development of cultural competence on the part of the campus community which is essential to achieving inclusive excellence.
Required Qualifications::
Master's degree in higher education, cultural studies, counseling, psychology, or related field and 1-3 years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in higher education, cultural studies, counseling, psychology, or related field and 3-5 years of related experience.
Strong commitment to and understanding of diversity and inclusion in a higher education setting with a proven ability to positively interact with all levels of staff, faculty, students and other constituents from diverse communities.
Previous experience supervising students and/or others.
Demonstrated ability to follow through on initiatives, consistently meet established deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain professionalism and a positive outlook.
Experience with budget management in a higher education setting.
Polished, professional, and effective presentation skills for all audiences and levels within and outside the organization.
Understanding of strategies that facilitate college student success.
Knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding access, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias and institutional racism.
Enthusiasm for creating cross-campus collaboration that fosters a supportive experience for students.
Self-motivated, enjoys finding solutions to new challenges, and can thrive working independently, as well as with a team.
Ability and willingness to occasionally work nights and weekends.
Essential Functions and percent of time::
30% Run day-to-day operations of the center including supervising student employees. Work closely with various campus offices, divisions, and constituencies to provide for all aspects of the design and implementation of services and programs that promote the success and retention of women and gender non-conforming students, will serve as a campus resource and internal expert on women's issues, and will lead community building and outreach activities to support the recruitment, sense of belonging, career readiness, leadership development, and academic success for students. Develop and coordinate programming to promote diversity, cultural awareness, and inclusion within the campus community for Women's student initiatives. Provide mentorship, guidance, and make appropriate referrals for students on academic, financial aid, conduct, personal, and career matters through a coordinated care model. Demonstrate the ability to follow through on initiatives, consistently meet established deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner.
30% Coordinate and prepare various assessments and generate strategic departmental reports on women and gender non-conforming students. Manage the center's budget and monitor expenditures. Build connections with community agencies and members to identify and leverage inclusion resources, to advance and enhance the student, faculty, and staff experience, cultural competency, and inclusion at the university. Engage with students, faculty, staff, and alumni on all issues related to women and gender non-conforming students, and create networking and mentorship opportunities between students, staff, and faculty.
15% Assist in efforts and initiatives that support the university's ongoing plans to create an inclusive excellence community. Specifically, the projects that promote the recruitment and retention of both a diverse and talented workforce and student body. Work closely with the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence, other culture and identity centers, and related academic departments to provide culture and identity programming that works to decrease discrimination, harassment, and bias-related incidents on campus, ultimately working to increase the cultural competence of members of the campus community. Provide polished, professional, and effective presentation skills for all audiences and levels within and outside the organization.
15% Coordinate social media initiatives and manage the Women's Center's website. Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Division of Inclusive Excellence.
10% Represent the division on work teams and committees, as assigned.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends occasionally.
