The Department American Indian Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time twelve-month Community Engagement Coordinator position to begin as soon as possible. Candidates for this position will serve as liaison between the University of Minnesota and American Indian communities, organizations, students and institutions. They will work to enhance the Department’s and the College’s role as a partner with communities of color in Minnesota.
Roles and responsibilities of this individual will include, but are not limited to:
OUTREACH & COMMUNICATIONS - 80%
Serve as liaison connecting the community to the department and college's teaching, service, and research resources, including use of social media and other resources.
Communicate the curriculum, scholarship & funding opportunities, and other pertinent information to prospective and current students.
Create and nurture a network of relationships that link the department and college to the community by providing internship and service learning opportunities for CLA students as well as research and service opportunities to our faculty.
Recruit diverse and excellent undergraduate students to CLA establishing relationships with schools, workplace, after school programs, service agencies and local community colleges to increase awareness of the University of Minnesota American Indian serving programs. This will include programming support for a summer campus experience for American Indian high school students.
Develops strategic plans for outreach to diverse communities including immersion schools, reservation communities, and other American Indian serving organizations.
Collaborate with collegiate administrative offices, Admissions, other collegiate outreach coordinators, and University personnel.
Cooperate with CLA Office of External Relations to enable outreach activities to build strong collegiate relationships with communities of color, alumni and potential donors.
Act as coordinator, in collaboration with the Department’s curriculum coordinator, for events and recruitment associated with the Ojibwe and Dakota language programs.
Regular communications between the Department and its various constituents.
LANGUAGE PROGRAM COORDINATION - 10%
Communicate with Dakota and Ojibwe language program instructors to support program offerings, particularly with respect to community (certificate and non-degree seeking) enrollment. This may include coordination of online language learning courses.
Collaborate with Curriculum Coordinator to administer language scholarships for full-time and certificate students.
ADMINISTRATION - 10%
Coordinate the distribution of marketing materials, postcards, and other deliverables to partner organizations in a timely manner.
Update Outreach and Community Partner contact lists with current contact information of our partner organizations.
Assist in creating and managing target audience lists for use by teams throughout the organization.
Assist & collaborate with Events Planner with AMIN Community related events as well as social media outreach.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree, plus four (4) years of relevant experience in program or project coordination.
Demonstrated experience working within American Indian communities.
Proficient computer skills to include word processing, email, electronic newsletters, social media, web searching and design.
