The Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events for the School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) works to promote and advance the School in support of its strategic goals. In this part-time position (25 hours/week), the Director develops and coordinates all SHMS marketing, recruitment and communication programs, organizes all events, and provides support to the SHMS faculty, administrators and staff with regard to advancing the position of the School in regional, national and international venues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual plans, manages and coordinates all events for the School. These events include annual orientations, open houses, alumni receptions, information sessions, student events (IPE Core Signature Experiences, New Student BBQ, Dual Degree Reception) and commencement ceremonies. Duties related to this include developing content for registration pages and emails, as well as coordinating catering and space reservations and signage.
The Director also manages graduate recruitment advertising in collaboration with University Relations (UR), the Office of the Dean and the SHMS Assistant Dean for Graduate Enrollment and Student Affairs. For undergraduate dual-degree recruitment efforts, the Director collaborates with other SHU schools and colleges (College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education and Human Services), and with external SHMS partners (i.e. those with articulation agreements).
Working closely with UR, the Director’s related responsibilities include developing and implementing an annual integrated public relations and marketing communication plan for the SHMS, working with the Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Deans and other key personnel in the School. This Director advises SHMS administrators, faculty and staff on effective use of various marketing communications tactics and opportunities (including use of various media, web, direct mail, advertising, telemarketing, print publications, video, etc.). In addition, this person is responsible for coordinating the work of all public relations and marketing professionals (internal and external) who work with SHMS to implement the plan created for the SHMS and, under advisement from UR, serves as the primary information provider to ensure that the School’s messages are distributed to all appropriate audiences. This individual is also integrally involved with UR in the writing and editing of all public relations and marketing materials for the SHMS. This includes all integrated communication plans, press releases, webpage copy, ad copy and brochures, magazine and newsletter copy as well as other public relations and marketing vehicles.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, with 5-8 years of prior experience as a public relations and marketing professional, preferred. This candidate must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with a strong marketing background. Experience in negotiating with vendors, development and implementation of budgets, management of print production management, advertising, event management and editorial support is essential. Skill in project management is essential as this administrator will be required to set priorities and coordinate the workflow of multiple tasks simultaneously.
