The primary responsibility of this position is to provide academic counseling which consists of skill development, guidance through key transitions, and targeted support. Other responsibilities may include assisting with early alert and case management processes, assisting with Center for Student Success (CSS) student leadership opportunities, collaborating with key stakeholders on student support strategies, assisting with CSS curricula, and contributing to special projects, seminars, and events. All staff members in the Center for Student Success are expected to uphold and contribute to the Student Development and Campus Life Division’s strategic priorities including a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; attention to meeting Student’s Basic Needs; and the development of a Curricular Approach that meets Division learning goals.
Support the mission and vision of Concordia College and demonstrate the competencies as defined for this position.
Provide academic counseling and assistance for individual students.
Conduct individual student meetings for skill development and academic support
Challenge students while building supportive and mentoring relationships
Develop academic success plans in consultation with students and key stakeholders
Execute outreach and interventions designed for students identified as at-risk
Contribute to the management of alerts and cases submitted through the Student Success Management system.
Coordinate with campus and community resources as necessary to evaluate progress and ensure appropriate support for students
Serve as a resource for the development and assessment of strategies in the student support curriculum
Contribute to Center for Student Success student leadership opportunities
Assist CSS colleagues with recruitment and hiring of student leaders
Contribute to the training, mentorship, and supervision of student leaders as needed
Serve as a resource for the development and assessment of strategies in the student leadership curriculum
Collaborate on special projects, seminars, and events as determined by Center Director
Assist with events in collaboration with partners in the Student Development & Campus Life Division
Contribute to the development and delivery of workshops and seminars at the request of campus partners
Participate in campus-wide recruitment, involvement, and retention efforts
This position is eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
Bachelor’s degree, two years experience in student affairs or academic advising related field; or master’s degree in progress.
Understanding of and experience working with diverse populations.
Strong communication skills including presentation or training experience.
Strong history of collaboration and teamwork
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, or other related Education field
Experience with early alert systems or student information systems
Classroom teaching and curriculum development experience
