Position Information In collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director develops, plans, implements and evaluates programs, services, initiatives and activities for Chicano Student Programs (CSP). The Assistant Director assumes direct responsibility for the office in the absence of the Director and functions as the key architect in the development of CSP programs, policies, and practices. The incumbent analyzes campus wide needs to develop a programmatic response, serving as a subject matter expert pertaining to Chicano/Latino undergraduate and graduate student success. The Assistant Director, in conjunction with the CSP team, collaborates with campus departments to address cross-issue social justice, diversity organizing, equity and inclusion, advocating for the well-being of students, with a specific focus on Chicano Latino students, with an intent to advance the knowledge of and awareness of Chicano/Latino student success at a Hispanic Serving Research Institution. The budgeted hiring range is between $66,800 - $75,000.

Advanced ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Advanced abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Advanced knowledge of issues related to Chicano/Latino students? success in higher education, in addition to knowledge of first-generation, transfer, and post-traditional student success. Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Demonstrated skill to logically analyze complex situations and data and develop clear and concise reports or recommendations. Analytical skills to recognize problems, develop potential solutions and to implement appropriate solutions. Demonstrated background in conflict resolution, crisis management and lay-counseling with appropriate referral knowledge. Excellent organizational skills, demonstrated ability to successfully follow multiple tasks through to completion, must be able to prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines while working in an environment with frequent interruptions, ability to exercise good judgment for problem solving and ability to anticipate problems. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature under a fluctuating work load. Knowledge, sensitivity and understanding of the social, political, personal and cross-cultural needs, concerns and interests of Chicano Latino Students and people of intersecting identities in the campus community and thorough understanding of Chicano Student Program's mission, vision and values. Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion including an understanding of the historical and social context of diversity, equity and inclusion, and of the intersections of identities including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religious, ability, immigration status, socio-economic status, and thorough understanding of CSP mission and the Chicano Latino educational experience. Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory and personnel management skills and strategies to provide oversight of student employees and interns, including experience with training and evaluating the performance of diverse student personnel, providing day-to-day oversight. Demonstrated background in educational program development including experience in diversity training development and facilitation, working with college level faculty, working with graduate students, working with Spanish speaking parents and families, educational background in diversity and social justice issues. Experience in a lead role, including responsibility for providing day-to-day oversight of area, leadership of team meetings, and decision-making. Familiarity with environment of UC Riverside or comparable academic institution and relevant issues concerning students, staff, and faculty. Knowledge of UC Riverside academic environment and administrative policies and procedures. Understand the responsibility and intention of the federal Hispanic Serving Institution designation, as well as the role of UCR as a Hispanic Serving Research Institution. Advanced ability in developing and responsibly managing departmental resources to effectively respond to students' needs and concerns within the scope of the departmental and divisional mission. Demonstrated background working with faculty, staff and students on program development on academic related subjects including but not limited to faculty lectures, symposia, professional development and conferences.
Additional Information Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Master?s degree in Raza Studies, Ethnic Studies, Student Affairs, Student Development, Organizational Management/Leadership, Education, Psychology, or related field.
