Ensures quality organizational operations, including YIP program planning, seasonal program hiring, problem solving and long-term strategic planning.
Develops and provides recruitment and outreach activities to Chicago area youth, high school counselors and community organizations.
Leads the recruitment of site supervisors across the UChicago campus and maintain relationships with existing supervisors.
Ensures all program staff (supervisors, mentors, YIP implementation team) are in compliance with university requirements for working with youth, and any applicable requirements from external program partners.
Supervises and trains YIP full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, including University faculty and students.
Collaborates with various University staff and faculty for programmatic stewardship and fundraising activities.
Serves as the main point of contact for YIP.
Drives and advances the development, distribution, and evaluation of the YIP application process.
Oversees the development and facilitation of YIPâ™s curriculum and program offerings.
Collaborates with Office of Civic Engagement leads for Communications, Data Collection, Development and Program Evaluation.
Serves as liaison with HR and Risk Management ensuring proper onboarding and paperwork for youth is completed.
Serves as a chaperone for virtual or in-person events and activities.
Supports existing and new internship STEAM site locations at the University and affiliated laboratories/centers (Fermilab).
Collects and maintains participant data.
Builds and manages community partner/stakeholder relationships.
Acts as the liaison to external partners, including After School Matters, One Summer Chicago and City of Chicago DFSS personnel.
Assists with data collection and entry into Cityspan and other DFSS-designated platforms.
Implements performance measurement tools with youth participants and ensure completion.
Attends mandatory trainings and meetings per request of DFSS; including but not limited to trainings for Cityspan and a DFSS-designated technology platform.
Prepares reports and analyses as needed.
Serves as a member of the College Readiness and Access (CRA) team and supports new and existing initiatives within the CRA and Economic Inclusion portfolios.
Uses in-depth knowledge and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries such as communicating with programs sponsors and academic advising for undergraduate students.
Develops and communicates program priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria. Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.
Performs other related work as needed.
Professional work experience with a background or working knowledge in youth development and workforce development.
Demonstrated track record of assuming increasing responsibility within an institution and working with program staff and senior staff to develop and advance program models and design.
Experience managing and executing plans for an organization.
Project management experience.
Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations/entities.
Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse populations of students and families.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Forms).
Ability to work effectively across an institution of higher education â“ including students, faculty, and staff â“ and with the broader community, including schools, community, and civic organizations.
At least two years of experience working or serving youth or communities on the South Side of Chicago.
Experience working with Chicago Public Schools students or similar public school district.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including for executive-level audiences.
Prioritize and multi-task to meet key tasks as scheduled.
Communicates effectively one to one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts; writes precise, well-organized emails, letters and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
Build and maintain strong relationships with university staff, high school staff, and the general community.
Effective organizational and time management skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
Exhibits energy and desire to achieve; sets ambitious goals and acts decisively; takes action that no one has requested to improve or enhance job results and avoid problems.
