DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the AVC EM, the Executive Director of Admissions is the Chief Admissions Officer, and is responsible for the campus-wide undergraduate admission of both domestic and international applicants. The Executive Director, through direct or indirect leadership, oversees all undergraduate admissions functions such as applicant file review and evaluation, first-year/high school outreach & recruitment, data/systems management, transfer initiatives, and day-to-day operations.
The Executive Director manages and evolves strategy to achieve a variety of outcomes through data analysis; an understanding of the local, national, and global landscape; and a highly collaborative understanding of the institution's strengths, potential, and people. They lead a team of 40+ FTE's including six direct reports, and more than 200 part-time employees including external readers and college ambassadors/tour guides. The position has budget responsibility of approximately $6 million annually. In collaboration with Admissions Senior Leadership Team, the person in this role develops short- and long- term goals and strategic plans for maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of University of California and UC San Diego undergraduate admissions policies.
A pivotal goal for the university is achieving then maintaining H.S.I. status, and the Executive Director plays a crucial role in these efforts as well as other strategic initiatives and aims related to the demographics of our campus community. They recommend, develop, and initiate enhancements to improve prospect and pipeline development, recruitment, admissions, and yield in alignment with campus admission and enrollment goals. They collaborate with AVC EM and Director of EM Analytics on modeling and strategy to produce campus- and system-desired enrollment outcomes.
The Executive Director of Admissions oversees development of multichannel marketing and communication strategy that supports early and broad student pipeline development. They guide operations and technical staff in use Technolutions Slate CRM and other software solutions to support admissions operations. The Executive Director stays apprised of best practices in the profession and its related industry, and implements changes in process and procedure that improve efficiency and increase market competitiveness.
The Executive Director of Admissions collaborates across a complex campus with highly ranked academic programs, a vital college system that will soon add its eighth organization, and a deep, common commitment to access with regards to diversity and affordability. The Executive Director regularly engages partners such as academic departments, advisors in the colleges, and divisions such as Equity Diversity and Inclusion, University Communication and Public Affairs, Information Technology Services, Athletics, and Student Affairs. The position will serve on the Faculty Senate's Committee on Admissions (faculty led), as well as other standing and ad hoc groups on topics as varied as pipeline outreach, branding, student success, systems implementation, and enrollment planning. The director represents UC San Diego in California, nationally and internationally on University of California committees or workgroups, professional associations (NACAC, College Board, NAFSA and ACAOPU, for example), and in the school counseling/transfer advising community.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required, master's strongly preferred. Ten (10) years of progressively responsible admissions experience preferably earned in a high volume US public flagship or AAU institution, practicing holistic selective admissions.
Expert knowledge of admissions and outreach programs. Proven undergraduate admissions experience leading efforts in a high-volume, selective public or private research institution. Experience in creating and executing strategic plans based on short- and long-range university goals and experience in developing and refining holistic admissions processes.
