Position Summary:
Generally, the Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life oversees assigned programs and services that facilitate a supportive institutional approach to develop the whole student. More specifically, this individual provides leadership and administration for student residential life and is responsible to define, plan, implement, communicate, assess, and develop residential community through policies, practices, personnel and programs that promote and enhance learning within the academic culture of Covenant College as defined by the purpose and mission of the College and the Student Development Office.
Essential Functions:
Develop a residential, educational co-curricular environment that supports the purpose of the college.
Responsible for the selection and development of the Resident Directors.
Responsible for the selection and development of the Resident Assistants.
Responsible for the on-going communications to all student residents.
Responsible for working alongside the Dean of Students in handling all student discipline.
Responsible for the communication of housing policies and for all housing assignments, for both upperclassmen and new students.
Responsible for being involved with and engaging others in the residence life of the college.
Responsible for ensuring that all residence hall activities, events, and programs are edifying and beneficial to the educational culture of the college.
Responsible for developing, monitoring and maintaining controls over the Residence Life budget.
Responsible for residence hall safety, keys, maintenance requests, and room contracts.
With assistance from College Tech Services, responsible for the campus internet filter and running internet reports to provide student accountability.
Act as a resource person and facilitator for internal and relational student conflict resolution and growth, paying special attention to at-risk students and crisis situations.
Act as a liaison between the residence life community, faculty and staff of Covenant College, serving and providing leadership and perspective for various faculty and staff committees, when needed.
Assist in the development and implementation of all college policies and regulations.
Be actively involved in setting goals for personal, professional and departmental development.
Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students
Requirements:
Master's degree with emphasis on student personnel, student development, or another related field of study.
Five years of experience in college student development.
A commitment to developing a reformed world-and-life view, with special attention to its application in the field of student development.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Strong leadership skills.
Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Strong interpersonal/relational skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
A genuine concern for young adults and the ability to communicate with them effectively.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures to meet changing needs or situations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Skill in budget development and fiscal management.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Knowledge of student support programs and services.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Employee development and performance management skills.
Preferences:
3 or more years of experience with leading teams.
Work experience in a Christian higher education environment.

A strong understanding of and commitment to Scripture, the Westminster Standards, and the doctrinal standards of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) denomination.
This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily in and around college facilities as well as in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and other job-related technology.
There is a mix of standing, walking and sitting for this particular role.
Classified as medium, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 25 lbs.
Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken and written word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Occasional travel may be required for this position.
