The Division of Laryngology is seeking a Lead Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to serve as a partner to the Division Chief and an SLP representative in the Department. As a dually compensated University of Cincinnati (UC) and UC Physicians (UCP) employee, the Lead SLP will bridge academic and clinical missions to improve patient care and enhance financial sustainability through improved clinical operations, billing compliance and increasing patient referrals while optimizing financial return to the department.
This position will be responsible for assisting with the overall planning, direction, supervision, and coordination of the SLPs, and collaboration with the laryngologists, in the areas of clinical affairs; workforce recruitment, development, evaluation and retention; student education; and research/quality initiatives. This position will maintain an active clinical practice.
Essential Functions
Maintain an active clinical practice.
Supervise and mentor 8 clinical SLPs to optimize productivity, patient outcomes, and team cohesion.
Collaborate with 3 laryngologists to streamline interdisciplinary care and enhance the patient experience in partnership with Division Chief.
Establish compliance frameworks for billing, coding, and documentation aligned with University, UC Physicians and UC Health policies and procedures with regular communication with Department Leadership.
Lead audits and implement quality assurance processes for voice and swallowing services.
Manage SLP work assignment schedule, including location, types of shifts, number of call/extra shifts and educational needs. Include department leadership in the creation of the schedule, as appropriate.
Act as a liaison with the Communication Science Department graduate program to help bridge the gap between College of Medicine and Allied Health for training opportunities for Graduate students.
Develop business strategies to increase service revenue, including expansion of billing opportunities and referral pathways working directly with Department otolaryngology clinical operations team.
Facilitate inter and intra-departmental communication and engagement in problem solving to actively address and resolve issues.
Assist with recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new SLPs to promote a smooth transition into the work environment. Develop and maintain orientation materials specific to the department.
Participate in the department performance evaluation process, providing feedback to the performance reviewers regarding SLP performance and goals.
Provide mentorship and support to all department SLP to ensure job satisfaction and retention.
Foster SLP participation in clinical, research, and education programs and initiatives.
Respond to SLP patient complaints and safety concerns. Monitor and investigate trends in safety events.

Required Education
Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Speech pathologist license issued by Ohio Medical Board as well as Ohio Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
Required Experience
Five (5) years of experience with medical speech pathology in voice and swallowing, including head and neck cancer and neurologic and neurogenic disorders.
Previous teaching experience with undergraduate and graduate level students.
Additional Qualifications Considered
PhD or SLP-D.
ASHA-CCCs.
