Summary of Responsibilities: The Provost, in consultation with department members, appoints chairs and directors of Academic Departments. Appointments are subject to the approval of the College President. These leaders provide oversight and implementation of departmental programs and serve as the official representatives of and spokespersons for Geneva's academic departments. Although chairs and directors are responsible to their colleagues inside the outside of their respective departments, they officially report to the Provost. The more specific responsibilities of the Engineering Center Director and Department Chair can be found below.

Strategic Relationships
Engage in community leadership initiatives and develop networking opportunities with local businesses in cooperation with the AVP of Strategic Partnerships.
Promote the program externally at community events and with industry partners etc.
Development of placement opportunities, cooperative work and sponsorships.
Foundation and Alumni Engagement
Develop engineering alumni relationships for networking opportunities for placement and program development.
Lead Engineering Center fundraising with the Geneva College Foundation.
Provide support at alumni events for fundraising initiatives.
Administrative Leadership of the Engineering Department
Oversee and regularly review the curriculum in the Engineering program.
Ensure that the degree programs fulfill the requirements of ABET accreditation.
Devise schedules for course offerings and for the teaching assignments of both full-time and part-time faculty members.
Recommend improvements for Engineering Center departmental facilities and equipment.
Develop and maintain a statement that articulates the meaning of the integration of faith and learning within the department.
Maintain an independent budget that clearly and accurately identifies all revenues and costs for the program.
Coordinate and/or write and submit the annual State of the Academic Program report(s).
Coordinate the professional accreditation processes, where applicable.
Works with the Registrar to allocate transfer credits to incoming undergraduate students.
Support and Supervision of Departmental Colleagues
Nurture collegiality among all department colleagues and throughout the institution.
Support the teaching and scholarship efforts of department faculty members, including with respect to the integration of faith and learning.
Provide leadership for hiring both full-time and part-time faculty members.
Evaluate tenure-track faculty colleagues for second-year review, for promotion, and/or for tenure at appropriate times.
Evaluate non-tenure-track faculty colleagues on a yearly basis.
Coordinate the distribution and review of teaching evaluations for full-time and part-time faculty members.
Hire and supervise departmental support staff.
Institutional Coordination and Planning
Participate actively in department chair meetings.
Advocate departmental concerns via State of the Academic Program Reports.
Collaborate with the other chairs, the Provost, and the Faculty Senate to consider and to improve all aspects of the academic program.
Serve as a liaison to the registrar's office regarding the college catalog, course scheduling, academic records, and other relevant academic issues.
Serve as a liaison to the library to ensure the availability of academic resources.
Serve as a liaison to the marketing and recruitment division in the interest of appropriate and timely communications and collaborations.
Serve as a liaison to the student development department in an effort to provide and to receive relevant information and to enhance appropriate and effective partnership.
Enrollment
Works with the Registrar to allocate transfer credits to incoming undergraduate students.
Participate in recruiting activities for the program including but not limited to Information Sessions, Open Houses, Campus Visits etc.

Job Requirements - Administrative:

Qualifications:
Minimum:
Education/Certification: Candidate must have obtained a doctorate in Engineering or a related field from an accredited U.S. college/university or international equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of higher education experience.
Skill/Abilities: Candidate must be able to teach coursework in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, or mechanical engineering.
Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College's 'Foundational Concepts of Christian Education' by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
Preferred:
Education/Certification: PhD in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in higher education administration preferred.
Skill/Abilities: Preferred candidates will be able to teach courses in thermal systems and fluid mechanics and lead students in Senior Design projects.
