Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative French teacher who has the experience and skill to chair the World Languages Department. We seek a teacher who wishes to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as the World Language Department Chair.
Lead the department in the evolution of its curriculum and instruction, support all members of the department in their professional development, manage the departmental budget, and serve on the Academic Council.
Plan and teach four sections of French at four to five different levels, including AP French, for grades 9-12.
Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
Teach using current pedagogical practices including Universal Design for Learning, backward planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning to equip students with the 21st-century skills they need for college and beyond.
Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising, and within the residential program.
Coach sports and/or lead activities.
Advise a small cohort of students.
Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in language education, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in French or language education is preferred.
5-10 years (or more) of teaching high school French including AP French; Department Chair experience a plus.
Current pedagogical practices may include experience with online language teaching tools and project-based learning.
Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
Facility with Mac OS, Tablet technologies, Mircrosoft365, Google apps, Duolingo, and other language education-enhancing products is preferred.
Experience in a range of sports – coaching or playing experience preferred.
Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
