Job Duties: Staff Counselors employed by the Center for Counseling and Student Development provide therapeutic and developmental services to enrolled students at East Carolina University. Staff Counselors report to either the Director, Associate Director, or Assistant Director of the Center for Counseling and Student Development.
Position Duties:
Counseling individuals and groups regarding personal, social, career and academic development.
Provide crisis intervention services including consultation, evaluation, counseling, referral, and follow-up. These services include rotating coverage of daytime emergency crisis services and after-hours on call for evenings, weekends and holidays.
Plan, conduct and evaluate outreach programs and services designed to facilitate student development and work cooperatively with university colleagues in developing and implementing quality programs.
Participate in ongoing evaluative procedures of Center programs and services.
Participate in ongoing professional development through in-service education programs conducted in the center, on campus, and/or professional organizations.
Provide supervision to graduate level trainees and/or, when appropriate, to staff counselors for licensure in their relevant discipline.
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree required in counseling, social work, psychology or marriage and family therapy, or terminal degree in other appropriate human services field; Eligibility for state licensure and/or certification in respective professional field
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: n/a
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Doctoral degree preferred in: counseling, social work, psychology or marriage and family therapy; Demonstrated experience and expertise in short-term counseling; Demonstrated interest in and experience working with all populations of college students; Demonstrated ability in outreach programming; Demonstrated consultation skills; Knowledge of current research in the field of psychology, counseling and college student development; Experience working with clients in one or more of the following the areas of: eating disorders, sexual assault, trauma, veterans' issues, and/or experience in provision of DBT-informed treatment preferred.
