Missouri Valley College seeks an energetic senior leader to serve as its next director of athletics.
The director of athletics provides administrative direction and oversight for intercollegiate athletics staff, programs, facilities, and activities. The AD is responsible for overseeing the Missouri Valley College athletic program including planning, implementing, and directing all administrative activities, budgeting, hiring and development of all coaches and athletics staff; fundraising; strategic planning; and monitoring the individual intercollegiate athletic programs.
The AD is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, NAIA, Heart of America Conference and college regulations, administering departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner and sustaining and modeling a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect at all levels. The director also collaborates with student administrative offices and admissions on the recruitment and retention/persistence of student athletes. In addition, the AD ensures quality game experiences for student athletes, families, and guests. The AD works with the Advancement staff to conduct several important fundraising and community events each year.
The athletic director reports directly to the president. The AD maintains oversight of athletics budgets, operational accounts and booster accounts. Moderate travel is required for conference, regional and national meetings, team travel and fundraising visits.
Must be results-oriented and demonstrate a commitment to the college and department missions; Create a long-term strategy for athletic programs at MVC with corresponding initiatives and tactics; Coordinate, update and implement strategic planning process for athletics.
Must be committed to the development of the whole student: mind, body, and spirit.
Must ensure the program rewards student academic success, retention, and graduation, along with success on the field.
Must always work to enhance the student-athlete experience, including developing strategies for student-athlete input in the experience.
Must regularly attend athletic contests.
Must also oversee the recruitment and retention of student-athletes to meet roster expectations.
Must recommend team squad sizes and manage overall athletic recruitment process. Supervise athletics facilities and team travel.
Monitor and report student-athlete course performance and assist coaches and student success with appropriate interventions.
Coordinate use of facilities by outside organizations
Coordinate team travel for athletics teams, including leasing and/or renting vehicles
Develop and manage Athletics Department budget and then monitor its implementation.
Develop athletics department and sport Key Performance Indicators and report on them regularly
Maintain and report regularly on eligibility, participation, compliance and develop training programs in these areas for new coaches and those needing professional development
Approve schedules and contracts for all contests.
Approve all purchase orders, check requests, expense reports, and travel arrangements.
Oversee the department’s office procedures and work.
Hire mentor, guide and evaluate coaching and athletics staff.
Oversee the Head Athletic Trainer and athletic administrative staff, including game management, marketing, attendance promotion, and half-time games/entertainment.
Oversee the Sports Information Director’s role and duties as assigned.
Coordinate or delegate the search process for open positions in the athletics department.
Comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Heart of America Athletic Conference and Missouri Valley College
Manage the student-athlete handbook and update it regularly, while coordinating appropriate changes to student handbook through the VP of Student Affairs;
Evaluate, approve, and submit, in cooperation with the Faculty Athletic Representative, eligibility forms of all student athletes to the eligibility chair.
Correspond with the NAIA on any special eligibility cases, such as hardships and other pertinent concerns.
Support the NAIA’s Champions of Character initiative and implement it on campus Support the NAIA’s life skills and anti-drug education program.
Represent the institution within the Heart and NAIA governance structure.
Serve as the athletics department’s main liaison with various constituents.
Lead the fundraising outreach for the athletic department in collaboration with the Advancement Office.
Use the gameday experience to build community connections.
Participate in the college’s annual fund endeavors and capital campaign projects
Oversee the planning and implementation of the annual athletics department fundraising events
Secure sponsorship for various athletics events, programs and facilities. Coordinate with the Alumni Office to develop alumni athletics events.

Valid driver’s license, and current CPR certification
Experience developing and implementing multi-faceted assessment plan in athletics or related area.
Familiarity and experience with NAIA athletics
Coaching experience, and multiple years of senior leadership in an athletic department, with experience managing all facets of an athletic department budget
