General purpose: The Associate Director of Student Academic Success will implement academic support for diverse learners, aiming to increase student success, retention, persistence to graduation, and overall satisfaction. This role involves significant partnership and collaboration with the faulty and various campus offices, including advising, accessibility and disability services, registrar, and student development, and requires a collaborative, strategic, and solution-oriented professional to enhance the Colleges capacity for providing campus-wide academic support initiatives for all students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision:
Provide operational-level oversight of MICAs academic success coaching, tutoring programs, and peer mentorship initiatives.
Onboard, and supervise academic success coaches, tutors, and peer mentors, providing ongoing training and support.
Ensure an integrated approach to student academic success and academic advising to provide services that support undergraduate (transfer, first-time in college, international), graduate, and open studies populations.
Carefully review, monitor, and revise rules and regulations that govern degree planning, course registration, and advising that unintentionally force students off track or diminish belonging.
Target interventions and reporting to highlight Courses with high failure or Drop/Fail/Withdrawal rates.
Student Support and Collaboration:
Collaborate with and refer students to campus resources such as advising, accessibility and disability services, and student development to support academic success and retention.
Ensure coordination with the Student Life team in an integrated manner where non-clinical support for students is identified as a need to ensure an integrated and seamless support experience as they navigate academic, personal, and family challenges impacting their learning and persistence at the college.
Counsel, coach, and intervene with struggling students on a regular basis and leverage resources, expertise, and partners in other units (Student Life, Career/Experiential, Enrollment Management and Services).
Program Implementation and Coordination:
Work with the Director of Student Academic Success, Vice President of Student Affairs, and other campus partners to implement resources and support mechanisms for students.
Represent the Office of Student Academic Success in the implementation and management of the Summer Bridge program in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs.
Committee and Team Involvement:
Serve on committees related to retention, academic standing, and overall student satisfaction with MICAs academic programs.
Survey and Data Management:
Implement student satisfaction survey initiatives in collaboration with the Registrar and Student Affairs, analyze data results, and develop action items based on findings.
Collaborates on analyzing alumni survey data and developing action items based on findings.
Document all information and communication in the appropriate database once identified (e.g., Starfish, Slate, etc.).
Event Participation and Additional Tasks:
Participate in Office of Student Academic Success campus events and retention initiatives providing both content and logistical support where needed.
Collaborate to develop printed and online educational resources for students, faculty, and staff about student support resources within the Academic Success Center and Division of Student Life.
Assist with additional tasks or initiatives related to academic student success and retention as needed.
Mission Support:
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff of the College consistent with the values of MICA.
Support the mission of the Office of Student Academic Success and contribute to overall student success.
Work as a collaborative member of the Office of Student Academic Success team in student retention and success.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated experience and creativity in managing difficult and complex situations involving students, families, staff, and faculty.
Knowledge of contemporary principles/practices in student development, multicultural competence, and case management.
Ability to use independent judgment to tactfully resolve problems and diffuse emotional situations.
Knowledge in areas of crisis and risk management, behavioral intervention, and community standards in a higher education environment.
Ability to exercise discretion in handling highly confidential information and work with confidential and time-sensitive materials.
Ability to evaluate instructional and program effectiveness.
Skill with survey design and qualitative/quantitative research methods and experience with assessment in higher education
Ability to gather, interpret, and extract meaning from data to inform decision-making.
Experience with Canvas and Zoom
Capacity to develop, implement, and manage strategic objectives.
Collaborative, proactive style with excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
Detail-oriented and deadline-driven work ethic.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to manage budget and personnel.
Proficiency in the Google Work suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides), and ability to learn other platforms in use at the college as needed.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelors degree in higher education, social work, or related field
Three to Five years experience working in academic or student life with both undergraduate and graduate students.
Knowledge of student development theory and its applications, and common issues and trends for college students' case management models.
Evidence of an effective leadership style, and a background demonstrating success in working with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
Experience working in a Bridge Program or management position within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in higher education, social work, related field
Reporting to this position: No direct reports.
