The Residence Hall Coordinator is a twelve month, live-in position responsible for the overall administrative and programmatic aspects of a residence hall, housing 275-500 students. The Residence Hall Coordinator fosters student and community development. This position reports directly to the Director of Residence Life of Campus Living for the first year of employment.
Supervision/Training/Development (35%)
Hire, train and supervise Resident Advisors.
Plan and implement team-building activities to develop the staff.
Evaluate and recognize staff performance.
Develop hall goals and strategies to attain them.
Assist in Campus Living staff recruitment
Teach an accredited Resident Advisor or First Year Student course.
Organize and facilitate weekly hall staff meetings.
Provide leadership training for Hall Improvement Teams and other student groups.
Advise the Hall Improvement Team executive board and body and support their activities.
Participate in professional staff development including: bi-weekly in-services, professional organizations, coursework, and work with other departments.
Chair or serve on a department team.
Function as a contributing member of Coordinator team.
Utilize student development programming to facilitate individual and community growth within the living-learning environment.
Motivate residents' involvement with each other and hall activities.
Implement educational programming
Involve faculty in the residence halls via programming.
Facilitate academic initiatives to assist all students, especially First Year Students, with their transition and study skills in order to support them as well as the academic mission of ECU.
Provide support and counsel to individual students on an on-going basis.
Respond to requests and inquiries from students in a timely manner.
Promote student responsibility for behavior, which is consistent with the mission of ECU.
Serve as hearing officer for student conduct cases and administer educational sanctions.
Be approachable and available to interact with students on a daily basis, ie. In the dining hall, during hall tours, and at programs.
Provide appropriate referrals to the Counseling Center and other campus/community resources.
In some halls, oversee a Residence Hall that houses the Living-Learning Communities (LLC), including:
Communicate weekly with each LLC on updates within the residence hall.
Attend monthly Campus Living LLC meetings.
Reach out to LLC Liaisons on attending staff meeting.
During RA Recruitment, ask for input on who they feel would be a good fit for the RA for each LLC.
Work with each LLC to host one program for the entire building focused on the characteristics of that LLC
Administration/Facilities (25%)
Coordinate administrative hall functions, including opening and closings.
Promote safety and security through development of RA duty schedule and facility walk-throughs.
Monitor hall budget.
Attend weekly professional staff meetings.
Assist with facility maintenance request process.
Prepare and submit reports, proposal, and other correspondence to Campus Living.
Participate in Coordinator campus area duty coverage and assist with crisis intervention.
Assume responsibility for departmental and divisional issues, programming needs and advisory duties as assigned.
Maintain office hours for staff and student contact

Minimum Education/Experience:
Master's degree in College Student Personnel, or related field, from an appropriately accredited institution
Knowledge of student development theory, counseling, community development, communication, crisis management, and administration.
Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.
