Reporting to the Career Preparation Manager, the Career Advisor is a key member of the Office of Career Preparation and Experiential Learning (CP/EL) at the Rowan College at Burlington County. This staff member will be responsible for advising students in primarily an individual format regarding their career, major, and transfer school plans; supporting department programs and events; and collaborating with faculty to support the academic experience with career goals.
The ideal candidate will possess strong advising/counseling skills, a professional and courteous attitude, attention to detail and time management, and an ability to work harmoniously with other employees, students, and the general public. This role is a full-time, in person, 35 hour per week, benefits-eligible position.
Meet in-person or online with undergraduate students and alumni to focus on resume writing, interview skill development through mock interviews, and job/internship search preparation and navigation during advising appointments.
Assist students with the most appropriate fit for an academic major/minor and related careers by using decision-making skills and resources such as FOCUS 2 and O*Net Online. Help students identify personal & career goals and develop leadership skills & strategies for success by focusing on career readiness competencies.
Advise students on discipline-specific experiential learning opportunities, available resources, and related processes.
Serve as primary liaison to select campus partners to collaborate on the development and delivery of programs and services.
Developing and presenting career workshops and classroom presentations (interviewing strategies, resume writing, job search tips, transfer school preparation).
Collaborate with colleagues on planning, support, and promotion of career events, including fairs, panel meet and greets, and other programs.
Prepare students for job and internship fairs and transfer school fairs.
Maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices in career development to apply to services provided to students.
Remain current in industry and employer information to teach students about resources connected careers, job market and salary trends.
