Job Summary: The SOE Student Success Advisor is responsible for counseling and advising on complex issues regarding student academic progress and wellness. This position requires an in-depth understanding of academic information, registration, and support services in order to facilitate the direct impacts to the University's retention and graduation rates. The SOE Student Success Advisor is expected to be an expert on academic policies, student support services, degree/credential requirements, and CTC regulations. The SOE Student Success Advisor communicates with SOE faculty and staff and the PLNU campus community to promote collaboration and improve services to candidates.

Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Candidate Support and Retention
Prepare advising materials and presentations to support individual and group on-boarding sessions for all newly admitted SOE candidates each quad, communicating academic requirements, course progression of SOE degree/credential programs, graduation requirements and other program specific information to SOE candidates.
Advise candidates with a continuous focus on degree progress, personal wellness, and student retention and graduation rates.
Analyze retention and attrition data to identify trends and potential solutions
Support candidate in course registration clearance, candidate's course progression, and regular review of candidate's academic plan
Continually seek ways to improve service to candidates by developing new initiatives or success measures that will contribute to retention and candidate satisfaction
Monitor candidate registration activities
Notify candidate's faculty advisor of any academic probation or non- enrollment situations
Determine and create a program plan for candidates working within records polices, degree/credential requirements, and CTC regulations.
Manage candidate progression and strategically provide on-going support to candidates resulting in increased retention.
Develop and monitor student risk assessments and employ intervention strategies at critical points of the candidate's educational path and provide appropriate intervention.
Handle confidential student information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA regulations.
Communicate with candidates regarding School of Education deadlines, registration information, and academic alerts.
Create and maintain electronic candidate records including test scores, fieldwork and student teaching requirements, candidate correspondence, and credential requirements.
Promote the PLNU SOE in the organization of, attendance at, or participation in special events and promotions for marketing SOE degrees and credentials.
Serve as the ambassador for PLNU School of Education's emerging programs.
Represent the SOE in various settings, including internal collaboration with university offices as well as external partners, such as districts, community-based agencies, state and professional associations which will enhance the programs and services of the SOE.
Identify and assess existing programs and services for the PLNU SOE including school-based opportunities as well as partnerships across the university and with community agencies.
Develop and implement a strategic plan for the growing array of programs and services available to alumni and local educational professionals, including a budget and calendar of events.
Create, coordinate, and implement partner recognition activities.
General
Liaise and foster intentional relationships with other institutional departments
Maintain accurate records (including electronic records) of interactions with students
Stay abreast of changing institutional and accreditation information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates
Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to, memberships in professional organizations; attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and department training sessions; stay current with information technology skills
Serve as a resource for faculty
Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge: This position requires a broad knowledge of college level services, including basic financial aid, registration, and retention best practices. The SOE Student Success Counselor must maintain current knowledge of CTC regulations, degree/credential requirements, SOE policies, and PLNU policies.
Skills: The position requires well-developed communication and organizational skills and the interpersonal relationship skills appropriate to regular interaction with diverse audiences, populations and individuals.
Abilities: The ability to interact and work effectively and harmoniously with university staff, faculty, and candidates. Adept at using technological tools to efficiently monitor and provide information, manage data, and collaborate with others.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required
Master's degree preferred
Must have strong customer service skills
An articulate, professional demeanor
Ability to exercise professional judgment relating to unusual circumstances
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team and assume responsibility for problem-solving
Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills, able to keep track of multiple projects and deadlines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Ability to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Ability to stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 20 lbs throughout the day.
