Job Description: The Assistant Director will direct academic and career advising for a large base of undergraduate majors (BA, BS) and minors as well as dual degree programs in coordination with CAS-MAX Advising and Whitman Advising for the dual degree program. The Assistant Director will conduct Student Performance Reviews and Graduation Reviews in coordination with CAS-MAX Advising for majors and minors and Whitman Advising for the dual degree program, as well as being responsible for the implementation of the IR Distinction Program and Undergrad Research Assistantship Program, including recruitment, selection, and courses. They will coordinate with Maxwell 'Fast Track' Programs on recruitment, applications and courses as well as SU Abroad and Maxwell-in-Washington student recruitment, internships, and courses, among other duties.

Lead IR Programs. Direct the Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program and coordinate with the Chair and Teaching and Affiliated Faculty; Implement and oversee the IR Distinction Program by coordinating with Chair on student selection and with Teaching and Affiliated Faculty on applicable capstone seminars; Coordinate with the PAIA Department on Maxwell 'Fast Track' Programs on student recruitment and applications as well as relevant course work; Coordinate with SU Abroad and Maxwell-in-Washington for student recruitment and placement, internships, and courses. Focus largely on Junior and Senior students, 4plus1 students, to provide intensive guidance that currently is not provided by CASMAX.
Majors and Minors Advising. Coordinate with the Chair, CAS-MAX Advising, and Whitman Advising on advising for 380+ of undergraduate majors (BA, BS) and minors as well as dual degree programs. Direct academic and career advising as needed and in line with program policies and university standards for juniors and seniors to ensure on-time graduation and speed to degree. Advising may include new major declarations, declared major advising, study abroad and off campus advising, responding to student email inquiries as well as the Distinction Program, Undergraduate Research Assistantship, Maxwell-in-Washington, Maxwell 4+1 'Fast Track' Programs. Update student database and files keeping detailed notes and reports regarding student progress and coordinate with CAS-MAX advising on timely degree reviews. Create and maintain advising rubrics that ensure uniform standards for advising within the IR Program. Collaborate with Syracuse Abroad and Maxwell-in-Washington to host remote advising sessions for majors studying abroad when necessary. Schedule appointments using the on-line student advising appointment system. Maintain and monitor 'IRAdvisor' email inbox.
Develop and Implement Student Experience Initiatives. Lead, in consultation with the direction of the Chair to provide support for Model UN Team, IR Living and Learning Community, IR Clubs and Organizations; Coordinate with other departments to ensure student success, including Honors, Center for Fellowships and Scholarships, and Career Advising, to identify possible opportunities for scholarships and fellowships, internships, and job placement; Undertake several new initiatives to improve the student experience, to enhance the quality of the program's curriculum and academic offerings. Coordinate speaker series and professional development workshops, including speakers, logistics, and publicity materials; Maintain regular contact with Syracuse Abroad and Maxwell-in-Washington programs to improve curricular coordination advising for majors.
Lead Alumni Outreach Efforts. Develop program's alumni network and manage mentoring program that pairs current students with alumni for career advice and mentoring. Develop IR-specific career resources and maintain database on alumni career paths as well as social media accounts.
Staff Lead on Recruitment Activities. Coordinate with Chair and Admissions on recruitment activities: Updates and maintenance of IR Program website; Revise and maintain publicity materials for program, SU Abroad, Maxwell-in-Washington; Participate in in-person and on-line recruitment events in coordination with Chair, Admissions, and IR Program Staff; Respond to inquiries from prospective students and University Admissions as required.
