The College of Communication (COM) is searching for two academic advisors to help expand our undergraduate advising staff. Our advisors engage in holistic academic advising that supports exploration and helps students realize academic, career and life goals. Each advisor will have a caseload of approximately 200 students. COM students learn from leading researchers and practitioners in our three academic departments: Film and Television, Journalism, and Mass Communication, Advertising, Public Relations.

Responsibilities:
Academic advisors provide holistic academic advising, share information about degree requirements, support student services for undergraduate students at BU COM, and contribute to student success efforts. In general, advisors are responsible for assisting students with course selection, monitoring student performance, connecting them with appropriate academic support or enrichment opportunities, and maintaining advising records in accordance with University and legal regulations. Advisors also provide guidance on academic policies and procedures and connect students with relevant campus resources.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 1-2 years of relevant experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication abilities.
Good judgement and the ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
A collaborative work approach and the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff with diverse identities and from a range of backgrounds.
Highly organized and attentive to detail.
Ability to use systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Zoom in the work environment and willingness to learn new software systems.
