Under general supervision, independently responsible for managing undergraduate support services and in collaboration with the faculty, implement the department's undergraduate program, including assessment processes in compliance with accreditation criteria in the College of Engineering (CoE). Provide comprehensive and complex academic advising services to undergraduate students including program development, planning and implementation. Actively participate on faculty governance committees and recommend program improvements as needed. Provide specialized expertise in academic and student affairs issues pertinent to undergraduate students and the development of college and department undergraduate education policies and practices. Serve as lead undergraduate academic advisor and department expert on undergraduate academic advising. Collaborate with the department student services team to ensure program goals, objectives and needs are met. Provide development and implementation of outreach, recruitment, admission, and retention efforts for undergraduate students. Represent the department on undergraduate matters with substantial delegated authority. This is a critical position with independent management responsibility for departmental undergraduate student support services.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in holistic advising and counseling approaches and experience with academic policies, procedures and requirements in a higher education setting; recommending solutions to progression and requirement issues; skills to make proper referrals to other campus resources and discussing and engaging in practices directly related to equity, inclusion, identity development, diversity, and cultural competency and humility.
Thorough knowledge of and experience with university, college, major, and general education policy requirements and their application to specific programs of major.
Experience in curriculum planning processes and best practices; knowledge of undergraduate and graduate courses and degree requirements.
Experience and knowledge of using common university specific computer application and student information systems (e.g., OASIS, Banner, DESII, ICMS and UC policies regarding Privacy of Information).
Strong professional, interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department and college leadership, faculty, students and other constituents from diverse backgrounds.Proven skills in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends; skills to find solutions to conflicting situations.

Familiarity with online course approval preparation and submission as well as knowledge of ABET criteria to develop and implement ongoing assessment plan.

Department Overview
This position is critical in providing guidance and support on decision-making to faculty in all areas of undergraduate affairs. Serves as cornerstone in the undergraduate program; holding primary responsibility and accountability of all undergraduate programs within the departments. Accountable for three undergraduate majors: biochemical engineering (EBCL), chemical engineering (ECML), and materials science and engineering (EMSE); and one minor in materials science all of which are administered under the College of Engineering. Responsible for administering the Honors program and the Chemical Engineering tutoring program. All majors are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Education and Technology (ABET), which requires a mandatory advising program. Responsible for overseeing and contributing in a high level support capacity to the implementation of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering's assessment process in compliance with the college mandated accreditation organizations (ABET/WASC). The total number of students in all three majors is approximately 700. The materials science and engineering major also provides formal engineering focus area electives where students can specialize in a complementary engineering discipline. Act as Lead to SAA and peer advisors. Work is performed autonomously with direct reporting to the departments Student Services Manager, indirect reporting to the CAO and there is a dotted line relationship to the Director of Undergraduate Affairs in the Engineering Undergraduate Office. This relationship will allow the director to implement and assess academic advising best practices for students in the college to align practices with the academic advising profession nationally and internationally. The Director will provide input during the annual EPAR process.
